Problem with my 1GB Player (it's a similar model to this one)
My NW stopped working
here's the problem. when i replaced the battery, the
player wouldn't turn on
i tried every battery in my house, including the battery i had replaced.
when i plug it into my computer i get the regular USB CONNECT message, but as soon as i take it out, nothing.
Is there any hope for my network walkman?

There are a couple of things you can try. First, some players have a master reset switch somewhere on the unit. These switches look just like a small hole, with the word 'reset' over it in small letters. You must use a small wire or pencil point to actuate the switch. Push the switch & try again. Try to reinstall the driver software on your computer. Other than this, there are no user servicable parts in these players & you may need a new one. Make sure you have the battery in properly.

well, i dont have an NW-HD5 player, but an atrac ad, which is pretty similar, i think. i solved the same problem by putting out the battery, charge it just for a minute without! the battery and turned it on in the meantime, then unplug it, put the battery back inside, charge it again with battery and turn it on, NOT by pressing the "play"-button, but by pressing the "search-menu"-button. and i think now i always have to press the "search-menu"-button to turn it on, otherwise the same error will occure. well, good luck!
please install the firmware update to resolve the issue.

Hardware issue (needs replacement) most likely, but: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
