Sigma 70-300 +''no lense attached'' w/ sony a200 dslr

Sigma produces lenses for different brands of camera's. The optics are the same, but the connection differs from brand to brand. So if you have a Sigma lens for Nikon, you won't be able to use it on a Canon or Sony. Unless you buy a adapter. But when you start using an adapter, you will lose the Af in most cases, because the electronic in the lenses differ also. and that can't be bridged.

Clean the electrical contacts on the lens then try it again.

Do you have the lens aperture ring set to "A"?

Hi Is the 28-70 a DF type if so it will work on a canon DSLR but if its the older one with the scale ring is on the outside of the lens it will need a rechip but I think thay are no longer avabile the 70-300 if is a super it will work or need a rechip if its a older one with a macro switch held on the lens with 2 screws it to old to up grade

Couple of things to try: 1. If you've downloaded the pics from your memory card, format it in the camera. 2. Go into the menu and scroll to "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Remove the card and battery...press all the buttons..leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.

If it's in continuous auto-focus and doing it, then it is just not locking on to one thing and jumping back and forth between two objects that are very close together in distance and it is normal. It should stop in manual, single shot or single point auto-focus. Sony uses Nikon auto-focus technology and my D-300 with a 70-200mmf2.8 will do it if I turn the auto-focus tracking time(lock-on) all the way down with the auto-focus in full auto.

clean brass contacts with qtip and rubbing alcohol. let air dry couple of hours. do the body and the lens. hope that helps

It seems that you may have an older sigma lens which does not have the appropriate electrical connections. Sigma can modify this for you if you contact them, and I believe the cost is reasonable. Although some lenses look very similar, there are electrical differences between earlier and newer lenses, even though they may fit on to your camera mechanically,
