Also open the top cover and you will see on the right side an alternate keyboard switch for US-International-Symbol. You must have an appropriate printwheel for the different settings. Also try HoldingCode-shiftkeys down and then hit the colon-semicolon key to get Nya.

How do you access special characters such as parenthesis and brackets on your keyboard

The shift key will make the common characters as marked on each applicable key available.

Other special characters, such as accents, are available but I am not sure how to make them accessible but your computer manual will provide details.

The number keys and others have more than 2 characters on the top and bottom of each key. How do I use these characters as "shift" + the key does not work.

Often holding down the Alt key (typically on the left on the bottom row) and pressing one of these other keys with the print on its face simultaneously will provide access to the function.

Not able to connect the sons Nitendo DSi to the internet. They are asking for the WEP Key but on my home hub there is only a WPA Key. BT have told me to connect to you to ask for support.

If your using WPA and your Nintendo DS only supports WEP Encryption theres no way you can connect it to the internet. WEP encryption is different from WPA.

WEP key uses hexadecimal - using characters 0-9, A-F or ASCII format. The ASCII format is easier to remember. The ASCII string is converted to HEX over the network.

Example of WEP key encryption are:

*64-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 10 characters in length. (12345678FA is a valid string of 10 characters for 64-bit encryption.)
*128-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 26 characters in length. (456FBCDF123400122225271730 is a valid string of 26 characters for 128-bit encryption.)
*64-bit ASCII keys are exactly 5 characters in length (DMODE is a valid string of 5 characters for 64-bit encryption.)
*128-bit ASCII keys are exactly 13 characters in length (2002HALOSWIN1 is a valid string of 13 characters for 128-bit encryption.)

WPA Key is entered as a pass phrase between 8 to 63 alphanumeric characters in the ASCII format at both ends of the wireless connection. Although PSK accepts a minimum of eight characters, for proper security, it is a good idea to use ample length and should not use a commonly known phrase. This phrase is used to generate session keys that are unique for each wireless client.

To resolved the issue you have an option to change the WirelessSettings on your router to WEP instead of WPA since WEP is also a secured netwrok. however you need to keep in mind that if you change the encryption you need to configure all othere device connected to the router via WPA and change the settings to WEP.

I downloaded Windows 7 and my wireless laptop won't connect to my 2wire. Where can I get new security key code or info get my laptop to work?

Hey pkkern,
.
Your default 10 digit security is located on the bottom of your router.
.
If you want to change it or for some reason your default key is no longer working we will have to get into the routers configuration homepage.
.
To access this open up your Internet browser and write in this address, (which is your routers address) 192.168.1.254.
.
If your routers homepage does NOT open up check to make sure you have no software firewalls
.
Click the Home Networking tab at the top of the 2Wire Home page.
.
Click EDIT SETTINGS located on the right panel (Status at a Glance) under the Wireless Settings heading.
.
You will see a wireless network security section, use the following information to select a custom wep-key.
.
Change your wireless settings and use the following information if you want to change to a custom WEP key. 64-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 10 characters in length. (For example, 123456789A is a valid string of 10 characters for 64-bit encryption.)
128-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 26 characters in length. (For example, 456FBCDF123400144445271730 is a valid string of 26 characters for 128-bit encryption.)
64-bit ASCII keys are exactly 5 characters in length. (For example, GMODE is a valid string of 5 characters for 64-bit encryption)
128-bit ASCII keys are exactly 13 characters in length (For example, 2008SUNSSWIN1 is a valid string of 13 characters for 128-bit encryption.)

Thanks for using fixya!

Setting secured wireless connection

You can enable WEP on your router.

In the address bar of your browser, type 192.168.0.1 to access the setup page of the Dlink router.

By default the username is admin and leave the password blank.

On the Setup page, go to Wireless.

Security Mode should be WEP then click Next.

You can change the WEP KEY 1. Make sure you remember this because you will need to enter this on your wireless computer.

Save the settings.

I hope this helps!

Are trying to enter the WEP key and it is not allowing any more the 5 characters (please input 64 bit WEP encryption and Five ASCII Characters))

It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before enabling encryption.

Note: Your network will slow down and wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead.

Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

Click here if you cannot access the web-based configuration.

Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen.

di614_128wep.gif

Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key.

Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption.

  • 64-bit encryption 10 characters
  • 128-bit encryption 26 characters
  • 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only)

The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key).

Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings.

When there are 3 characters on a key how do I access the 3rd key

Sometimes these 'third' characters on the keyboard are in blue.
You should find that you have a Function (Fn) key on your keyboard.
Keep the Fn key pressed down whilst tapping the key/s with the third character.
