My console is a 5 year old unmodded origional big version. (not slim, duh). its been making the clicking/grinding noise for a while, so i opened it up for the first time to clean the laser/laser rails etc. but when i closed it up and tried a game, the disc spun about 1 sec. then went to the browser screen. it doesn't say anything: not reading disc, no errors, it just sits and does nothing. what did i break? or what happened?
Dude, the same thing happened to me. I have the same aged one. I kept trying and trying games. Some worked some didn't. What the problem could be is that you accidentaly hit the rotatign meconisim and it is off balanced! Give me a reply and I could set up a FREE live chat to resolve this issue. I know that the warranty is long gone!
Or you could have pushed the laser to far up or down. I know that if you bend the track that the laser goes on........the PS2 is done. It can't move! Respond so we could schedule a free live chat session.Or you could have pushed the laser to far up or down. I know that if you bend the track that the laser goes on........the PS2 is done. In both cases, the DVD drive is probably gone; a common issue. You could and try have somebody repair/replace it for you, or try it yourself.
If the DVDs are spinning, you can buy a separate laser-unit for around $15 on eBay (search for 'ps2slim dvd drive') and replace that part yourself; it's not that hard as you can see on this instruction video:
seems like you need to go buy a lens cleaner from bestbuy or something. Run it repeatedly untill it works. sometimes it takes a while. But it will work after. please rate@
if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.
The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance
If the grinding noise occurs while you have a disc inside then it could be the len rubbing against the Cd. This problem normally happens in Slim Line editions of playstation2's. If the disc is blue coated, the playstation2's lens finds it hard to read the disc. Resulting in the lens moving closer to the disc. This is avoidable, try standing up your playstation. Or avoiding Blue coated disc.
sounds like the lower bearing on the trans mission shaft is seizing up on you. had a frigedair that did the same thing. i took it apart to replace, but could not buy separate. it only came with a purchase of a new transmission, which ran $175- 275. so i junked it out. washer was only 5 years old.
First Clean the lens: http://www.ehow.com/how_2036275_clean-lens-dvd.html wont open, wont close, makes clicking/grinding noises etc. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/thompson_dvd_tray.htm
the reason it makes the "grinding" noise is because the motor that moves the lens to read the disk is dieing, this generally happens when you have played your ps2 for a long time, this only happens to older consoles.
