The error 10 message is trying to tell you that the new memory card you have tried to put in is not compatable with your camera. AS you have already tried turning it off/on, replacing batteries etc, you can try taking all cards out, and attempt to get it to fuction correctly with original cmaera memory. After taking out all cards, and with a fully new set of batteries in, use your cameras menu to format the camera memory. Now try and take photos with just normal memory. Is it working? If it does, and error is gone, put in old memory card and reformat it. Does camera pick it up and recognise it. Can you now use it. The new card you tried to install may have been an incompatable brand. Check your manual for approved brands or your local dealer. The card could also be faulty.

My Nikon Coolpix L20 will only delete one picture, and then the screen says "please wait" It's been over 20 mintues, and just yesterday it worked. It hasn't been dropped or anything.

Hi,

This might be a file error on the memory card.
This happens sometimes.
Save what you can from the card then format it in the camera a few times.

Hope this helps.

Lens error message on nikon coolpix L18 I purchased my Nikon L18 Cool Pix camera last September ('08). Last week when I turned it on, the lens extended fully, then retracted fully as I got a "lens error"...

Hi,
When system control does not get lens initialize signal while extending it, then it try again by folding it and extending and still no required initialize signal then generate error and stop further functions.

Please remove battery and open camera and remove flexible wire of lens mechanism from connector, there would be lock that needs to release to remove flexible wire. Clean wire terminals with alcohol, let it dry and put back flexible wire in connector and lock it. Now put battery and power camera up, hopefully lens will work properly.

Nikon 4600 coolpix

Hello, Many times when someone fools with a memory card and the camera is on, it sort of backfires when the camera is trying to read or write data to the memory card. Error 10 might be attached to a fault in the memory card or system error. Try doing this first: remove you memory card when the camera is off. Remove you batteries so it can reset. Leave the batteries out for 30 secondsthen replace them. Use a brand new SD memory card and then turn on camera. Go to menu and format the new memory card and see if this helps. Good luck.

Sytem error 10

Hi - I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:

"System Error" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor trnsp.gif Question My COOLPIX camera displays a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do? trnsp.gif Answer Having a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
  3. Turn on the camera.
If the above tips do not help, your camera must be sent to our Nikon Authorised Service Centres, there are no user serviceable parts in our Nikon COOLPIX cameras. Sort of like a Windows Restart to reset the memory.

Hope this helps.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

Hope this helps.

System error 10

You can try taking out and replacing the memory card with the original that came with it. You can also take out the batteries for a while and then put them back in. That's what Nikon suggests. If this doesn't work you are told to call Nikon.
Let me give you a little information about this issue. Nikon 4600, S1 and S3 have a faulty operating system. The good news is that there is an update for it. The process of repairing that issue might take an hour or two. You have to hard boot the camera with a jumper setting on the unit to force the new operating system in the camera and then upload all the updates.

Nikon is repairing them for people, but they want you to send it in and are charging people $87 for the repair. You might be able to find someone near you that can do the repair for you much cheaper.

It might just be better to buy a new camera.
Sorry i couldn't help more. Good luck.
