You might need a new hard drive or need to reload the operating system also might be an issue with the bios chip or mainboard
try running the computer with the harddrive only connected and your video card and a keyboard

Computer shut down

I would start with a RAM check and hard drive test before I did much else. Errors while installing windows would seem to indicate a hardware problem of some kind.

Problems loading OS in Gateway desktop

Normally installing the os on a different mechine, and then putting into another pc dosent work.

If the hardrive is the oringinal drive, which came with the system, and you want to install xp on, you will have to use a dos disk with fdisk on it, delete all partitions on the drive and create a new partition, then start loading windows, it will give you the option to format the drive for nt(ntfs) file system and setup windows.

If you do that and it still gives you protecting files error, you will have to take the side panel of the computer tower, unplug from the mains and take the cmos battery out for about 30 secs, put the battery back in, plug in the mains and reboot the computer, start loading windows again
Hope this helps and post back if you need further assistance.

Vista problem:can anyone help me

look for Win vista CD and boot your computer with it, then restore your computer back to a date that it worked perfectly, you won't loose any of your saved document or if you don't have a bootable CD, then at startup press F8 then select SAFE MODE and then at window, click on START-PROGRAM-ACESSORIES-SYSTEM TOOLS-SYSTEM RESTORE. Good luck

Startup repair

Did you try using Safe Mode? Hit F8 when its booting and choose safe mode. See if that will let you boot into the OS.

My ZD8000 Restarts automatically When I Shut It Down

This sounds like a hardware fault with the motherboard. I would suggest you resseting your BIOS to default settings. Do you know how to do that? Please advise...

Exiting Outlook 2003 running in Vista OS

There is a compatibility update from Microsoft for Vista and Outlook 2003:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929427
It doesn't address specific problems there, but it tells you how to get the compatibility updates. Sounds like a good place to start.
