Singer simple sewing machine will not sew

Have a singer simple 16 stitch machine. Threaded needle, bobbin, have tried many many times to sew. End up with a few stitches, then the machine jams. Some stitches turn outside, but the underside looks like chopped up thread. Tension has been checked, and nothing seems to help.

I have adjusted tension, have used thin cotton. My mother and I both have identical machines and for about a year have had the same problem. It can't be that you need to have a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering to operate what's called a SIMPLE sewing machine. I had a friend look at it who's been sewing for 20+ years, and even for her it would do the same thing. After a few stitches it jams, locks up, the bobbin thread gets caught outside and around the metal bobbin casing, and it has the effect of "eating" tons of thread. I probably go through about a yard of junk thread for every half of a yard that I sew.

should you make the tension less or more?

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2014

In the middle of a monogram, my machine just stopped before finishing one letter and went to the next letter. Then it just made crazy stitches which looked nothing like a satin stitch. I took machine plate off and cleaned area around bobbin well, changed needle and to a thread that I had used before with no problems. Tried embroidering one letter using a font that came pre-loaded on machine. The machine is noisy and the thread keeps breaking even after needle and thread change. Can't find anyone locally to service Singer machines. Any help would be appreciated.

For twenty years i had the Singer machine with motor & legs & a cabinet. I always faced problems with the thread not coming in from the bottom or the thread coming in bunches. Waranty & servicing have no meaning because even after servicing it didn't work. If it did ever work the thread would keep breaking. We purchased the threads from the retailer from whom we bought the machine. Singer is pathetic. Hence, we always borrowed the neighbor's sewing machines to sew any repair on clothes & sewing of clothes is always given to the tailor. Finally, whence we moved home we threw it in scrap. Seeing the name Singer nobody was ready to take it even for free.

I\'ve always used a singer except for a few years I had a Kenmore. The Kenmore is a lot heavier machine than my Singer but I still like Singer best. Make sure that your thread is not turned where it catches on the end of the spool where the slit is to keep the thread from winding off when not using it. When you start sewing hold onto the tails of the bobbin thread and the top thread for about an inch. Be sure you have the bobbin thread in correctly.

It is a tension problem. Keep trying to adjust the tension. Use thin, cotton material. Also check to see that the bobbin is wound up tightly.

Thread will come out of the needle when start sewing

  • sylviaivie Jul 24, 2013

This is a simple operator error. Get in the habit of grasping or trapping the threads with your fingers when you start to sew a seam. OR always start your seam with the take up lever in the up position.

Singer ce100 is skipping stitches when needle is in center position

You don't say what you are sewing so I'm going to give you general answers in hopes it helps.

1. Needles: There is no such thing as a universal needle. Make sure you are using the proper needle for your fabric. This goes for thread too... make sure it's sized for the needle.

2. Make sure the bobbin is threaded correctly (poorly wound bobbins will cause problems too)

3 Improperly threaded machine. Make sure you area threading it correctly with the foot in the UP position.

4. If you are a material puller... shop it. It is never good to pull your fabric through the machine as you sew.

5. Stitch length. simple rule: Fat fabric.. long stitch, fine/thin fabric short stitch.

I'm not familiar with your futura abut I've noticed new home machines take a way presser foot pressure adjustments... which can cause issues too.

My old Singer sewing machine won't pick up the bobbin thread. It is threaded properly and goes down to pick up the bobbin thread, but comes up with no bobbin thread. What to do please?

Hi, try re-timing the machine. Select "straight stitch," then take the bottom off the machine to see underneath the bobbin case area. Open the faceplate and look for two marks on the needle bar around where it enters the machine. Take out the bobbin case to see the hook. Turn the balance wheel toward you so the needle is going down. Stop turning when the needle is just about to start on its way up. The bottom mark on the needle bar should be just about to enter the machine, and the point of the hook should be just above the eye of the needle. If it isn't, tilt the machine backward and loosen the two screws on the vertical gear so you can move the hook to where it should be. Tighten the screws and put everything back so you can test your setup. If it sews a straight stitch correctly, try it on zigzag wide stitch. If it misses one side, repeat the timing process.

My bobbin stitch is loose. I have tried adjusting tension and have changed the needle.

A. To correct loose stitches, try the following: (1) Balance the thread tension. If the stitches are loose on top of the fabric, decrease the tension to the next lower number. If they are loose on the underside set the tension to the next higher number. (2) Make sure the needle/upper thread follows the threading path. (3) Check to see that the bobbin case is threaded properly. (4) Use a different size needle. For fine fabrics, use a smaller needle (size 9, 11); medium-weight fabrics require a size 14 or 16. And use a size 18 or "Denim" needle for heavy corduroy or denim.

Hd-110 can't pull up the bobbin thread

If the needle will not catch the bobbin thread, try replacing the needle and make sure the flat side of the needle shaft is facing the back of the machine.

Always thread a sewing machine with the presser foot up.

Lower and raise the threaded needle, while holding onto the end of the thread. This will pull up the bobbin thread.

Take both thread ends under the presser foot and to the back of the sewing machine.

Hand Walk the needle a couple of stitches before using the power pedal.
