Hi Dave, Based on your posting/description, a couple of possibilities. You have to check the settings of your RF Gain control, Automatic Noise Limiter and Switchable Noise Blanker also your Squelch control. Further, pls check your RX signal, if the incoming signal is strong say S5+ but no audio, then perhaps there is an internal problem with the RX/demodulator circuitry. If fiddling with the front control(s) does not solve the problem, then perhaps you need to seek the services of a qualified service technician. Sometimes, the USB, LSB switch can also casue similar problems. Good luck and hope this be of some help to you. Kind regards and 73s.

    Hi all,
I guess the "Guest" might be right, might just might be a simple case of bad internal speaker although the Cobra 148 GTL in my experience is not prone to such defects (now if it were a Midland or a President then....) Cheers all.

Why does the mic attachment on my cb radio cause receiving & output problems?

did the radio do well at the cb shop you took it to? when you re-installed it in your vehicle did you change the coax? You may think about taking it to another shop for a second opinion as to whether or not the radio was actually tuned.

Modulation being muffled could be the mic or it could be an adjustment in the unit.

No Receive on cobra 25 nw ltd classic cb radio how to fix it

first make sure its on cb not pa. next make sure the squelch is all the to the left. now make sure your volume is open enough not to blast. If you can hear anything you are good if not you need to take it to a tech.

People can hear me but I can't pick up anything.

Make sure the squelch is down the the RF gain is up. Also try another mic. If the RX wire in the mic is broke or shorted, the radio will not go into receive mode.

My Squelch on my Cobra C.B isnt working anymore, Does that mean anything or do i need a new C.B?

It means either the knob or something in the squelch circuit has gone bad. Doesn't mean that you cannot use the radio, you will just hear static all the time when no one is talking. If the static bothers you, you can always back the RF gain down a bit. That will quiet the noise, but lower you receive range. meaning you won't hear as far away.

Hi i recently bought a cobra 29 ltd chrome cb radio for my car,i also installed a new antenna ,i have a strong signal, but i am unable to hear conversations because the sound is distorted. It sounds like...

You can't tune the radio. You are supposed to tune the antenna.

I have a page for tuning your antenna. This can cause some distortion, but it shouldn't be that bad. Go here for how to tune your antenna.

also the internal speakers aren't that great. Try an external. I can't just use an internal because an external is so much better.

Something else to consider. There is a lot of skip right now. Skip is when the ionosphere becomes charge by solar flairs, and causes radio signals to skip across it, making them travel hundreds and even thousands of miles. There are some cb operators out there who run a lot of power. 10k watts and up, who just talk skip all day. A lot of those guys sound extremely distorted and over modulated. You may be hearing these guys out there. Its their radio's not your receive.

Also. People who are close to you, may over load the front of the radio in the receive section, which will make it sound distorted.

My cb transmits with a very weak signal and won't recieve anything. The weather band recieves with no problems. I couldn't even pick up a signal on my SWR meter but a friend of mine tested it on his home...

There are a few things that could be wrong. If there is something wrong with the mic, you may not hear anything on the radio. but weather will work.

Other then that, the receive section of the radio could be blown.

Try a new mic, and if it doesn't work, then there is something blown in the radio. It needs a tech.

Uniden Pro 510xl can send but not receive

If you look on the solder side of board you shoud see a straight line of 5-7 solder joints, look on the other side the audio vhjp is a bmack thin retangular ic chip. Not to worry you wont hurt anything by doing this. Its an old cb tech trick to test audio chips.GOOD LUCK.

Oh one other thing does the radio have same same problem in either vehicle? A insulating washer on the antenna bracket can cause this also,
