I'm having the exact same problem with the face plate opening half way, stopping, powering down, powering back on, closing and repeating the same process over and over again. It will still allow me to listen to the radio as long as I don't try to open the face plate. I hope someone can help with this. It is very annoying. Thanks.

There is a ribbon cable that connects to the main board that needs to be replaced the best thing to do is to have the radio sent off since the is tedious sodering involved unless you know how to repair these thing its pretty easy is to good of a head unit to go to waste the part cost about 33.00 including shipping go to pioneers web site and get the 800 number

I also had this problem and the solution was to change the data bus, or if you want, you can pull out a little the data bus.

I own the the Pioneer DEH-P9800BT and my screen will not come on. if i press the eject button the screen will come on when its open, when i press it again to shut it the screen goes blank. I have no idea...

You will get this problem when the printed ribbon is slightly cut because of the repeated opening and folding of the screen. Eventually, the ribbon will be cut to the point that you won't get any sort of response when pushing any of the buttons on the faceplate. Order this part number and replace it. P/N:XNP7026. You can get one from Ebay that already has the connector plate soldered on, if you do not have any experience with soldering to printed circuits. Connecting it is fairly straight forward. Remove the top plate of the receiver, 4 screws securing the cd-unit, unlatch the ribbon (paying close attention to how the ribbon was routed). Reroute new printed ribbon and reassemble the unit in reverse order. Good luck, hope this helps because I was rather upset when mine failed.

Not working at all

Its the ribbon cable which connects the faceplate to the main unit.
The bad thing about these types of receivers, is after a lot of flip downs and flip up, the wires in the ribbon cable get weak and break.

If you want to fix it yourself:
http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_nkwZDEHQ2dP850MPQ20ribbonQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZR40QQ_mdoZ

I had this same problem, and was able to fix it myself.

Best of luck!!

Freezes while i press open

first check all of your power and ground connections and be sure your battery is good then try the small reset button on the front face. if that does not work you may need a new flexible ribbon cable that you can find on ebay cheap.

Wont stay open

I had load of these units and the cure is simple. You need to replace the ribbon to the faceplate as these get damaged due to wear and tear. Every unit i had with this fault, i fixed by replacing this ribbon. Buy the ribbon and surround as the new surround is a modified one to give extra life to the ribbon. Hope this helps, good luck!

Pioneer deh - p9600mp

An install gone bad. Something is hindering free movement of the face plate open mechanism. Closely inspect the top edge of the bezel, is the face plate trim ( thin plastic ornamental frame covering the ugly aluminium mounting sleeve) snapped securely back in place? has it been fitted upside down?, is it deformed?.

Screen will not open

I have the same problem and found it is the ribbon cable to the faceplate holder. As the plate folds down it breaks the connection in the bad part of the cable and the deck doent see the faceplate, thinks it's been removed and begins to close. As it is closing the ribbon cable straightens and makes connection again. Hope this helps. Kkarma
