Sweeper stopped after using wand

This has happened before, I will use the wand and once I put it back, the sweeper itself doesn't work. It turns off and then it won't turn back on. Days later, it will work like normal. Why?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
Most of our vacuums include a thermal cut out, which shuts the machine off if it starts to overheat. Usually this will be because the filter needs a wash, or because there's a blockage in the machine. From what you've described it sounds like there's a blockage in the hose, wand or duct.
To resolve this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL
It's important to wash your machine's filter at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video above. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.
This should resolve the issue, but if you would like some further advice from our experts, please email us at [email protected]. We'll be in touch as soon as possible.
Best wishes,
Jack

SOURCE: using the wand works fine, but using sweeper - no suction

Forgive me if I'm thinking of the wrong model, but I think the DC07 has a short length of clear plastic tubing between the floor head and the fixed vacuum pipe-work. This tube can split and let air in which, of course, reduces suction at the head. You need to inspect it very carefully, as the split is often where it's really difficult to see!
If this is the problem, a repair with tape is possible but rarely completely satisfactory. A new bit of tube is the best solution.

Model DC40, the wand doesn't have any suction when I want to use on stairs, etc.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
If your DC40 doesn't seem to have suction through the wand but picks up as normal on flooring, it's likely there's a blockage in the wand or hose. To locate and remove any obstructions, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

        http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc40/dc40-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-up-well/check-the-wand-and-hosedc40

It's also worth giving both filters a wash as shown in the video below - in normal use this should be done at least once a month. Use cold water without detergent and at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further assistance please call our freephone Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

I removed the handle of my Dyson DC24 to vaccum in high areas and now when i try to put the back piece back, it doesn't click. So when try to vaccum on the floor the handle just comes off.

        Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. The wand handle should reattach easily to the machine, locking into place with an audible 'click'. If it doesn't seem to be doing this, you may want to check you have the handle facing the correct way round, with the red release catch at the front. You may also want to check the wand and hose for any blockages - for guidance on doing this, please follow the steps shown in our Support guide:

        http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/no/check-wand-and-hose-step-1

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Central vacuum won't start even after depressing the reset button on the carpet sweeper. Hose and wand appear to be unclogged.

Is it only the power head that's not working, or the central vacuum itself? Disconnect wands from hose, turn on, and hold hand over hose end to check for suction. If none, go through first set of steps below.

        If the vacuum:
        1. Press reset button on vacuum.
        2. Check circuit breaker at the circuit box to make sure it's ON.
        3. Make sure the unit is plugged in completely.
        4. Use a voltage tester to check for power at the outlet.
        5. Check filter. If dirty rinse it with warm water, and allow to dry thoroughly. I strongly suggest having a second filter for use during drying, then just trade off using them.

If the vacuum still doesn't turn on, consider the following:]
Broken or worn out power switch in hose handle...Switch needs replaced.
        Broken wire in hose...Replace hose.
Bad connection...Needs taken to an authorized Aerus service center for check and repair.

If the power nozzle (suction at end of hose, but power nozzle doesn't work:
        1. Ensure the brush has been thoroughly cleaned of any hair, string, and other items that may have wrapped around it.
        2. Power nozzle motor runs, but brush doesn't turn when vacuum is on...belt needs replaced.
        3. Power nozzle motor does not run...All wiring, connections, and motor need to be checked.

If you can't determine the problem with the above helps, the entire machine, including hose, wands, and power nozzle, needs to be taken to an authorized Aerus service center for complete check.
If you don't know the location of the nearest Aerus Electrolux store, go to below site, type in zip code, and click on "view dealer list". They may also be able to send someone to pick it up.

The reset button on the "sweeper" is only to start the "sweeper" motor after it has shut off due to the brush getting jammed. It doesn't effect the vacuum operation.

        Wand

I just took my DC17 apart to determine the problem (noted above). Basically it seems like there is a 'nub' on the lower part of the extension wand. Actually, there are two on either side, one higher (white, facing the back) than the other (black, facing the front). The lower one (black) acts as a brake for when you yank the wand out - it stops the wand from coming out all the way. The little black nub is hitting the inside ribs of the hose and stopping, impeding the wand from pulling out. What seems to have happened is that the hose has constricted a little too much and the diameter is 'smaller' by just a little and therefore the nub catches. Use the trick I mentioned above to work the hose off, a little at a time. Once you get enough hose, you can stretch the hose and it will then pull out without catching. To keep it from doing it again? I am not sure, but if you were to turn the wand/hose counter-clockwise to loosen the coil inside the hose, this may just open up the inside a little bit. I have done this and it is seeming to work. So every time I use the wand, I will unwind the hose counter-clockwise a little bit and see if this helps....
