I just purchased a Crate Profiler 5 portable amp. It has great features however one question I have is why the sound mutes and unit has to be tuned off then back on. This is the only annoying issue I seem to experience. Last, how long will the batteries last? Thanks
There have been multiple reports of this problem - some claim it's for "power saving", although that makes no sense when the AC adapter is used.
I've also heard about the A-440 tone coming on at various positions other than the right one. I have both these problems with the one I bought. Too bad - nice concept, decent sound, but obviously terrible QC and software problems. Probably the reason a $209.00 amp is now $49 bucks....

Contact the Crate Service Department at 1-800-738-7563 or 314-569-0141 (8:30am-5:00pm central time, Monday-Friday) to order any parts and/or schematics.
Looks like Q24 changes the gain at IC4-A from low with no input jack to normal gain with a jack inserted. Since this appears to be a guitar amp that expects a floating input plug any connection at the input to say, a mixer etc may cause a re-grounding via that equipment's circuits, thus negating the auto mute...... eggs & suck :-) If using a moving coil meter it could upset things.... an interesting fault! Sorry I can't be more help - Good luck!
Check your guitar with another amp, or a different guitar with this one with no effects pedals, etc, to narrow it down to just the amp. At that point, try reversing the polarity. If none of the above helps, you may indeed have a bad ground somewhere and you'll need a tech to follow it to the source.
USUALLY the Mute LED's for the switches ar operated by separate contacts on the mute switch an a resistor current limit for the LED. I could NOT find the schematic for this board, HOWEVER some Soundcraft brand mixers do NOT have illuminated Mute switches... Not sure about your particular unit.
It is likely that there is a failure of one of the amps in the unit. It could be a cracked circuit board, bad solder, bad volume control, or a bad compnent in the power amp section for one side. HOWEVER something does NOT compute here as you can't connect more than one speaker to a 15 Watt Crate amp... Maybe you have two of these amps.
Power light means very little. If unit has a preamp output, plug a set of headphones into it and see if you can hear anythin going through. (it will be weak). If you can, the power amp section is bad. Take in for service.
Make sure the "ground lift" option is used on the direct box.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use a headphone output jack as the output of this unit. The headphone jack is for HEADPHONES that have no return to ground. Use of this as drive to a sound board is sure to cause problems and in some cases can fry these amps due to the circuitry.
The cable used to go to the direct box should be very short and high quality.
You should source the power for this unit from the SAME source and receptacle as your sound board if at all possible.
Check the input RCA plug going into the reverb tank (silver box with two wires connected to it). Make sure the amp is off when you do this. Sounds like the output is working fine if hitting the amp does it.
