I have the same problem. I did not do anything to my unit, no up dates nothing just using it out of the box.I got in my car I turned the Nuvi 200w on it shows a screen that says "NO DETAILED MAPS FOUND THAT SUPPORT ROUTING.THE NUVI CANNOT BE USED WITHOUT THEM." That's all it says and I can't do anything with it.

I have the same error screen pop up, and it will not allow me to do anything like access menus.

Same problem here and their website is evidently jammed today, can't access mygarmin. There is a 30 minute wait via phone. Anyone have a good internet link regarding this problem?

  • Anonymous Apr 10, 2009

this is annoying..... anyone got an answer? you CAN NOT access any of the settings because it is locked on the error window!

  • randerson6 Apr 11, 2009

The exect same thing happened to my new Nuvi today. I searched the site and it has a fix. You have to create a new unlock code file. I did this and it still does not work. The' directions say that if this does not fix the problem, to call support, but alas, it Easter weekend and no one is answering!

  • 4chowdog Apr 12, 2009

I have the same problem, No detailed maps found that support routing. I tried the "recreate the unlock codes file" but that did nothing. Have to wait till Monday to call support. From the looks of things, there is a problem with the download file they have on their website

I bought the nuvi 200w and when I registered the unit it said that there was an updated map available so I down loaded and installed it. When I turned the unit on, it said no detailed maps available and would not work. I called garmin and they said that to fix it I had to hook the nuvi up to my computer and start>my computer>nuvi>garmin there is a file called gmapprom.img (shows over 1,000,000 mb) delete this file. Open all programs>garmin>mapsource highlight the areas on the map that you want and click on the add to device icon. After doing this, my nuvi is working fine. The explanation was that the original file had files for Canada that were not unlocked. Try this and good luck!

"Hi,
Go to your account at garmin that you created to manage your maps.

Click myMaps
Click Manage Maps
You should see your unit and it’s unlock codes
Copy all the unlock codes for your device
Close your internet browser
Right click on your desktop
Click new, and then click a new Text Document
Click on the newly created Text Document icon from the desktop
Type your unlock codes into the document
Click File and Save as
Change the file name to gmapprom.unl
Change the “Save as type” to "All files"
Close the document
You should see the file gmapprom.unl on your desktop
Right click on the gmapprom.unl file and then click copy
Plug your Garmin device in and then click Computer/ My Computer
Click on the nüvi drive
Right click on the Garmin folder and click paste
Safely disconnect your Garmin device from the computer

Regards,
Richard."

That fixed mine. I tried for approx. 8 months and got no where until I found Richards post. My GPS works again!

Hope I am not to late. It took four days to get this out of Garmin and it works, just follow the directions to the letter and do not get impatient, when you are done it will work. Here is the instructions:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am sorry that you are having difficulties updating your Nuvi. I have included a fix that you can do which will fix the error message that you are getting on your unit.
1. Extract the downloaded file Garmin_RMU_2010B.exe using 7zip(7zip.org) or WINRAR.
2. After extracting, the files should be available at the location where you extracted the files.
3. Go to the extracted file location. Click on the Windows folder.
4. Right click on the Setup.exe file and Click Create Shortcut
5. Right click on the Shortcut to Setup.exe file and Click Properties
6. In the target line ( add) " -build_map_image 006-D0783-04" at the end of setup.exe". For example it will look like this xxx\Setup.exe" -build_map_image 006-D0783-04
7. Click OK.
8. Double click on the Shortcut to Setup.exe the map file will be built. Leave the Window open till completion of all steps.
10a. Windows XP: Click on Start>Run, then type in %Temp%. Another window will open.
10b. Windows Vista: Click on the Start Button, in the Start Search, type %temp%. Another window will open.
11. The file is placed in subfolder named 006-D0783-04.
12. Copy the gmapprom.img file from the folder to the Garmin folder on your Nuvi. Overwrite the existing file.
13. The lower 49 states will be installed on the unit.

If you have any trouble with this fix, or are not comfortable trying it please call into our 800 number and ask to speak to Software Support and one of our technicians will be happy to assist you.
If you need further assistance please call 800-800-1020 number Mon - Fri 8:00am to 7:00 pm central time and someone will be happy to assist you.

Hello, I'm a 200W owner, I'll try to help;-)
When you go to Settings>Map>Map Info do you see any map installed? Is the map checkbox checked?
If after this you still dont have maps, probably you'll need a new map update from City Navigator or Mapsource (request it from Garmin) and be sure to check all map areas you would like to be installed.

How do i reset my garmin nuvi 200w satnav it says no detailed maps found how can i reinstall them

Locate the reset button, located on the back of the device, in the lower left corner. Remove the sticker covering the button, and use a straightened paper clip to depress the tab.

To reinstall maps

Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable. You can only update the maps through connecting to your computer.

Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on.

heres a link to the site;

http://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/login.htm.

Click the "myMaps" tab on the myGamrin dashboard. This will load a list of all of your purchased map upgrades.

Click the drop-down menu in the "Recent Map Purchases" section. Select your Garmin Nuvi from the list of devices.

Install the Garmin Communicator Plugin when prompted. This is required in order for the Garmin website to transfer the map files to your Gamrin software on your computer.

Download and install Garmin Express. This is the program that allows your computer to interact with your Garmin Nuvi.

Register your device in Garmin Express. If you haven't already registered your device, you'll be prompted to when you start Garmin Express. You'll need to register in order to update the maps.

Click the "Updates" tab in Garmin Express. This will show all of the available updates for your Nuvi, including the new map update you just purchased.

Click the "Show Details" option next to your Map Update. Click the "Install" button that appears. You will need to accept the agreement before the update installs.

Wait for the maps to download and install. Once you agree to the terms, the map update will begin downloading to Garmin Express, and will then be transferred to your Nuvi. This will likely take several minutes to complete.

Close Garmin Express and unplug the Nuvi when the update is complete. The Nuvi will reboot and begin installing the updated software on the device. This may take another couple of minutes.

If you weren't automatically prompted to install Garmin Express, you can download it from

When trying to put in an address the Garmin asks me for a country and then does not accept it after typing in the first letter. The other functions appear to be ok.

Hello

you need to update your map

Purchase your map updates (if necessary). You can purchase map updates for your Garmin Nuvi from the Garmin website. There are two basic options: a lifetime purchase or a one-time upgrade. The lifetime purchase gives you access to any new updates for the life of your device, while the one-time upgrade will provide you with the latest current maps, but you'll need to purchase again if you want to upgrade again later.

Make sure to log in with your myGarmin account before purchasing the map upgrade.

Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable.

Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on.

This will likely take several minutes to complete.

unplug the Nuvi when the update is complete. The Nuvi will reboot and begin installing the updated software on the device. This may take another couple of minutes.

I have Garmin Nuvi 200W that I'd like to add Australian Maps to.

You can purchase maps for download at https://buy.garmin.com/shop/buymaps.do?null&ra=true. Garmin does sell the maps for Australia at that site.

There are other maps available from third parties which are compatible but you'd have to confirm that from the seller.

This 200 series was purchased several years ago and was never registered. I need to update the maps so what do I need to do? I do not have the PC cord.

First you need to buy the correct USB lead that will connect you unit to your PC. They can cost upto £19 brand new.

Then you need to go to myGarmin and register your unit ID with the secure website. Because you will already have maps already on the unit you can buy lifetime updates for £99.

You may have to perfom an unit update prior to the map updates as you have never hooked it up the Garmin website.

Hope this Helps.
