I have an Avanti DG241BS and the stove works fine, however, the oven does not stay lit once you release the knob. Have tried numerous times to hold in the knob at various temperatures and can hear the gas and see the oven ignite, but once I let go of the knob the gas stops. Thought the problem was fixed a month ago, but seems to be back now. The broiler seems to work fine, but have noticed lately it works when it wants (same issue as the oven).
This is definitely a manufacturing problem, as it's occuring with our unit, too. We've attempted three times to have it fixed and no one seems to be able to offer a solution. Deeply regretting having purchased this range.

I, too have this same problem. at first I thought he had to do with the airflow within the oven itself and it was a safety feature- to ensure you didn't just turn on the gas... By opening the door a small amount when 'firing it up' you can draw up the flame a bit and this has helped to keep the oven going, but my results have been inconsistent. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I also have a problem with uneven heat in the oven and a problem with the ignition- sometimes the flints keep sparking well after I've released the knob...very frustrating.I, too have this same problem. at first I thought he had to do with the airflow within the oven itself and it was a safety feature- to ensure you didn't just turn on the gas... Same thing happened to me and I'm also very sorry that I purchased this unit for a rental property. Three trips out by the repair person have failed to correct the problem. Stay away from this product if you need an oven that actually functions.

Re:
There has to be a protection system in the burner assembly to cut the supply of gas to the burner if it does not light. For the case of an oven the supply must be cut off immediately if the burner and its pilot go out. For that gas control system to work the burner control must "recognize" with a sensor when the burner is lit and when it is not. Pushing the knob "in" momentarily on this model bypasses the protection system momentarily to allow a burner to be ignited in the first place. If releasing the knob extinguishes the flame the control system is not "seeing" the flame. I tried to find some detail info on you particular ignition system but to no avail so all I can offer is a general approach to these kinds of problems . You need to find and clean or replace the sensor used to detect a flame. It could be an optical one (doubt that) or a temperature flame sensor, a thermocouple sensor, or some other kind I haven't thought of. Fixing this problem involves first determining what kind of sensor it uses. A copy of a service manual for this model can help you determine that. Try to clean the flame detector, and if that doesn't work you have to replace it or the gas control assembly it is a part of. If you have a spark ignition and its not sparking when it should first clean it --carefully--. Spilled food can short them out. Unplug the range before doing this. The owners manual shows it to be under the top burners which can be removed for cleaning this.

I had this same issue on this same model (which is how I happened upon this page). I'm still not exactly sure why, but the problem resolved when I pushed down on the knob more firmly than I normally would to light the stove, and it seemed to slide in a little deeper. After that, the oven would light.
While your holding in the knob after lighting the pilot, their is a thermocoupler that is heating up and will hold automatically what your pushing in, that thermocoupler is defective
It sounds like you are having an excesive buildup of gas pre-ignition. You should hear no "Whooom" sound.
The ignition assemble likely needs to be cleaned of rust, dirt, grease etc. That is the typical cause if improper ignition, gas buildup pre-ignition etc.
The problem of not staying lit is caused by either the flame sensor not sensing flame, (which may need to be cleaned or replaced.) or that the flame is simply being blown out by the air movement as a result of the sudden combustion of excessive gas build up.
So, to summarize, the ignition and burner assemblies need to be cleaned, and the flame sensor may need to be replaced.
