Go to start>run, then type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. If no luck then go to control panel>network connections, then click on your network adapter sometimes called local area connection unless it's wireless and right click>properties, click on the tcp/ip line and click properties and check the obtain ip address is ticked and select ok. Try again and if that doesnt work go back to network connections, right click on your network connection and select uninstal, then restart the notebook and it will reinstall itself for you to try again.

Hi,

Go to "My Network Places" and then click on "View Network connections". You should see an icon for your internet service provider. If you do not see an icon to your ISP, then click on "Create a new Connection" and follow the wizard which will guide you through the setup process.

Laptop Virgin?

Hi,

you can download the manuals for the NB from the following link

www.hp.com/support

enter the product number of your NB, then in the search bar type manuals. It will take you to the manuals page.

You will have everything you want..pictures.. initial setup screens, specifications etc..

For wireless internet there is a switch in the NB that need to be turned on. It looks like a tower and sound waves coming out. After you do that you need to have a router and a dsl / cable broadband internet connection to be able to connect to the wireless internet

I have recently moved house from a virgin broadband connection taking my router and lap top with me. My new home has existing virgin broadband. Having plugged everything in as should be my laptop finds the...

Try reseating te broadband connection to the router.

It soundslike your router works if it connects to your laptop with a great signal. But its not sending any information through.

Try reseating. if it does not work. you might need to do a fresh reinstall of the router. Usually the broadband connections attach itself to a mac address of a network card. If you recently put a new router the network cards MAC address is different and it might not send signals through. like for me for cable i have the same issue.

Try this let me know how it does. If any problems please let me know.

I hope this helps

I recently moved house and got virgin media to install phone tv and broadband. Connected the modem through Ethernet. Worked fine....then the PC froze and when I restarted, start up message was "PORT...

That's fantastic, but other than blaming either Virgin or your new house for the PC problem, not terribly instructive.  What's this about a modem...you mean you connected your PC to Virgin's cablemodem using cat5 ethernet, which is pretty normal?

Give exacting circumstances (e.g. timing after the BIOS and Windows screens came up) and descriptions of the error messages, and people can help out, especially if you go create a new problem under your exact PC model, and try to suss out the problem by googling for 'Port 00 error' and your model.

As it is it sounds like Windows found bits of itself missing (as moving vans can cause sectors to go bad on HDs) and vainly hoped you would have the Windows 98 or XP install CD handy to fix things.  It is probably time to install a new hard drive and appropriate OS of your choice, and copy info over from the old drive before labeling and packing that thing for spare use.
