  • Anonymous Apr 30, 2009

i got the same problem and i was told to get a new phone and not factory reset mine bc then ill loose everything...

  • emma16 May 04, 2009

they should make an application for the g1 that you highlight more then one text message at a time to delete, so therefore you dont have to delete the whole thread.

  • Anonymous May 08, 2009

The first week of having the G1, amazing. After that, entirely unimpressed. For about 2 weeks I've been trying to delete text messages. An ex boyfriend's thread containing 2,566 messages to be exact.... if the problem doesn't get resolved, I'm going to freak out. Hey GOOGLE, get on that.

  • lindapretty May 12, 2009

    I have the same problem!!
I really don't want all of those txts when I used to talk to my ex and now they wont delete wtf?!!?

    This sucks

  • Anonymous May 13, 2009

I'm sitting here at work with the exact same problem. There's a woman I was talking to and we racked up 2918 text messages over two months. Tried to back up the thread using a app...it crashed after 50 tms were backed up. I'm on the verge of my lunch break. I'm going to give it an hour or so, if that thread isn't deleted at 4:30 , I'll back up my apps with Astro and factory reboot the phone.

  • Anonymous May 16, 2009

same i have a about 1276 text and it wont delete and when i hit delete thread. **** keeps freezing and i restarted my phone 10 times and its getting so slow and crashing. and now my signal keeps loosing.. g1 sucks!

  • Anonymous May 17, 2009

I'm completely disappointed in the response time for deleting text. I have thousands and can not delete them. I will try to delete them again and just wait like others have suggested. Wish me luck.

  • Anonymous May 19, 2009

i have 5700 text messages and it keeps freezing and everything and asking me to wait and stuff like that i hate the g1

  • ermajo77 May 19, 2009

When i receive pics via text message. I see a botton labled download. I press the button then a receive a message saying download complete but nothing happens. Where do the downloads go????

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2014

I want to keep my texts between me and my friend, because it's something I love to go back and reread. But now it just says Loading... on the convo. I deleted my other convos and even got rid of a few apps, some of my music (700 songs now like 4/500) and plan to get rid of all of my photos from the phone to my computer. I don't know what else to do. After I do the pictures, I might just pop the battery out and try that. Any other suggestions? I really want to keep mine and his convo so deleting the convo will be my absolutely laaaaaast resource. Any ideas I haven't tried yet? (Oh, and I even tried to save the messages to my gmail using SMS+ BACKUP).

This problem had been bugging me for over a month now so I decided to just try and wait it out. First I deleted all the threads individually that the phone would allow me to so that just left me with 3 big threads, one that had 1300 messages and 2 that had about 650 each. I went into each thread and hit delete and when the "force close or wait" message popped up I hit "wait". Then it came up again about 5 minutes later so I hit "wait" again. I kept hitting "wait" each time and the thread eventually deleted. The ones with 650 took about 10 minutes of waiting to finally get deleted, the one with 1300 took about 20 mins but eventually they were all gone and now my phone is running much more smoothly. So just wait it out. Its annoying but worth it in the end.

If you want to delete something, try this. i had like 50 threads and 3-5 that had over 1000 txts each, so i just hit the "Delete All Thread" button and let it sit there before i went to sleep. Than when i woke up, all my threads were gone and i could txt again.

Well this happened to me also...Expect I was deleting a thread tat had about 900 texts. Go into the thread and try to delete it. It will give you that message but dont do anything. Let it sit there. The message should just go away and then hopefully the texts will be deleted. Then reboot your G1.

You have to delete them one by one till you get to about 600 then it should delete them all as one thread in a few minutes or less

You've just gotta wait it out... don't try to force close. Eventually it will delete all your threads and you'll be ready to txt again. It's funny that the G1 sms app works not unlike gedit (linux), when files get too big, the thing just locks up >.< Funny, my Palm Centro never required that I remove old sms messages. I had literally thousands of messages and it never slowed down =D

-go into the messaging app and click into the thread you want deleted
-hit the menu button
-hit delete
-you will get pop up box that says "The entire thread will be deleted"

G1 wont delete text msgs

Hi there.
Factory reset will delete everything (not in all cases though) back all your numbers up to the sim card, back photo's and games up to the memory card (if you have one) and restore the phone to factory.
As for any messages forget them.

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

G1 Text Message Deleting Problems.

The same thing happened to me, I had a thread of texts that exceeded 1000+, I tried to delete and it would always force close.
It just so happens that you have to completely reset your phone, that means putting it into the state that it was in when it came out of the box.

You can do this by..
Step 1: Taking out the battery
Step 2: Hold the home key, end key and menu key all at once untill you see a new symbol on the screen.
Step 3: Press alt + w

Congrats, you just nuked everything off your phone.

(And yes this is the only way, I consulted two T-Mobile stores.)

Cant delete the thread on the g1

ya....its a known issue that should be resolved when cupcake software is released.....

you WILL encounter this force close error message everytime to attepmt to delete messages if you have over 100 messages in the inbox....

just select menu > delete threads and select the force close error when it pops up. you should be okay.....just keep doing that till cupcake is out. if that doesnt help, youll need to have the phone reset. try going to MENU > SETTINGS > SD CARD AND PHONE STORAGE > RESET PHONE > ERASE EVERYTHING.

**as long as you remember you gmail username and password, all of your contacts and calander apps will be restored on the handheld. if you do not remember them, you will loose EVERYTHING if you complete this reset.**

good luck :)

Deleting Texts Messages

try to delete all threads at once by going to menu then delete threads.....after the force close error messages, you should be okay. i know it wont allow you to delete thema t once...so try all at the same time.

just heads up, this is a known issue and should be resolved once the cupcake software reslease is out....until then, keep your inbox UNDER 100 text messages and it will help prevent this from happening until that update comes out.

worse case scenario. if you do have to reset the phone, all your contacts and calender info will automatically be synced with phone given you remember the username and password for your google account. good luck! :)
