Have you updated to the newest Itunes and had itunes open while you plugged it in?

yes you can. use an application like handbreak to convert it to the right screen size, the ipod will not show you the movie exists unless you have it in the right format AND screen size

first open itunes program on your computer then connect your ipod, if it appears in itunes and start charging then your battery is empty leave it until it charges.Else when your ipod appears in itunes, you should get a button "restore ipod" by clicking on it it restores your ipod to its factory condition as if it is the first time you turn on your ipod.

You could try restoring the software back to factory defaults and see if something is missing. Make sure it is fully charged before doing it.
