Occasionally the picture will become rounded at the corners showing some color striping. This usually clears itself. Recently the picture began shutting off momentarily with good sound. Now the picture is also abruptly closing in and then popping back to full. I've checked several online troubleshooting sites looking for a similar problem. I'm thinking it might be the convergence board. Can repairs/adjustments be made in the service mode or is replacement of the board recommended?

Replacement of the board is never recommended, unless the board caught fire and is all burned up. If the convergence circuits quit working then you still see a picture, but the 3 colors just dont line up with each other. The picture shutting off, closing in and then popping back to full suggests a loose solder joint in the horizontal deflection circuits. This is something that cannot be adjusted in the service mode and the repair should be handled by a qualified tech.

Most of the time when this happens the power supply for the set has failed and is not getting enough voltage to operate the set. A very common problem among all the brands. It could also be overheating and not letting the set come on to protect itself. Your alignment is off. Go to the set up menu then convergence. hit right and you will be in the convergence menu. select the color that is not in alignment. The green line does not move. if blue and green are lined up the line will be cyan. if red and green are lined up the line will be yellow. when all three are lined up the color will be light. Best of luck!
