ST220 Joystick calibration problem

I just bought a game for Windows 2k that needed a joystick, so I brought out my dusty, old ST220. I plugged it in, and ran the "setup.exe" file that was on the floppy that came with it. Thinking that everything was solved, I started the game, but the joytstick didn't work. I quit the game, and went to "Game Controllers" section in the Control Panel. When I went to calibrate the device, the "plus" sign was moving around eratically even though I didn't even touch the joystick. I've searched Google (which didn't turn up a lot of results), but to no avail. Any help will be appreciated.

Your joystick contacts make that +cursor to make a crazy movement. You should replace that rubber contact on your joystick.

Problems with turning

You need to do a calibration on the joystick. I don't know what operating system you have, but if it a PC, and you have Windows XP you can go into control panel and look under Game Controllers, it should list your joystick. Click Properties and then select the Settings Tab to calibrate your joystick.

Hope this helps.

Do I need a driver for wingman attack 2 on Windows XP, I can't get it to work. I'm very very new at this.

The drivers from Logitech help and can be downloaded from thier support site. The software they have lets you use profiles for all the games you play with the joystick, that way you don't have to constantly calibrate it for each game. The windows drivers will work the joystick....just have to go to control panel, game controllers and enable and calibrate the joystick.

Logitech zero calibration reset method

Have you tried using the Logitech calibration uninstall tool that erasers all joystick calibration from windows.

Download and run the Logitech Clear calibration (LWS_CLRC.EXE).

The Clear calibration Utility was developed by Logitech to resolve calibration problems with Logitech digital gaming devices.

NOTE: This utility strips all calibration information in the Windows Registry for all gaming devices. This includes any non-Logitech gaming devices that have been installed.

You may also want to uninstall and reinstall the Joystick Software as well. In some cases, if the calibration issue is within a game, you could try uninstalling and reinstall the game.

Please refer to your game manufacturer for instructions on uninstalling or configuring the game.

Note:
This calibration tool specifically mentions the Wingman Joystick, However, it works for ALL Logitech and NON logitech Gaming Joysticks and Gamepads.

I recently purchased logitec extreme 3d pro joystick and a user manual did not come with it. How do I get one?

Did you purchase it open-box or second-hand? If so, you shouldn't be surprised at the lack of a manual. If you bought it new, it may not have come with one.

I personally have one of these joysticks, but I bought it so long ago that I can't remember if it came with a manual or not.

Either way, there really isn't much need for a manual for this joystick. It doesn't have any very advanced features that would require a manual. It's very simple to use:

  1. Plug it in to an open USB port on your computer.
  2. It should be automatically detected by your operating system. If not, you may have a defective joystick or a defective USB port. Try the joystick in another USB port. If the problem persists, check Logitech's website.
  3. In Windows, click Start->Control Panel->Game Controllers. You should see the joystick listed. Select it and click Properties.
  4. It should open a new window to the "Test" tab, where you can make sure all the buttons work. I suggest you click on the "Settings" tab at the top left.
  5. Click "Calibrate..." and follow the prompts. It'll ask you to keep the joystick centered and press a button on the joystick (use one of the side buttons such as 11 or 12 so that you don't inadvertently move the joystick from center).
  6. Then it'll ask you to move the joystick in complete circles. Do this several times and advance to the next step.
  7. It'll ask you to move the throttle slider up and down. Do this several times and advance to the next step.
  8. It'll ask you to set the "Z-rotation," which is the left/right twist of the handle. Do this several times.
  9. It'll ask you to center it and press a button. See step 5 above.
Now the joystick should be calibrated and ready for use. If you have multiple game controllers, you may want to click the "Advanced" tab back in the Game Controllers window and make sure the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is selected as the preferred device.

Now start whatever game you want to use it with. You'll probably have to configure what you want the buttons on your joystick to do within the game; follow the instructions that came with the game.

Pretty simple, and like I said, there are no advanced macro functions or anything like that for this joystick.

When I bank right or left with joystick the screen Freezes

To check the joystick isn't the problem, go into control panel game controls, then check that the joystick appears and you can move the cross-hair around on screen, most modern joysticks are
auto-calibrating, but you could try running the calibration.

To check the game isn't a problem, unplug the joystick, then use the arrow keys to fly the plane, if it doesn't crash when you bank then it isn't the game.

I assume the game is Combat Flight Simulator 3, as very old games that were written for Windows 95,98,ME series often won't run on Windows NT,2000,XP,Vista as they are completely different versions of Windows. If this is actually Flight Simulator 3, you may need to consider buying a later version of Flight Simulator (FSX is the latest version, but may not run on your laptop).

Other things to try are updating the graphics card driver.

Norton shouldn't need deactivating, although it could cause problems if you're playing online.

Also remember that laptop graphics cards are never as powerful as desktop graphics, and games very rarely specifically support laptop graphics.

Hope this helps.
