I looked into to this it is the ccd and Canon will fix it for free (shipping included), as stated below. I have copied what has helped me!
It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensor used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.
Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.
U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to [email protected]

Screen is black when in record mode but still record sound

Hi Keith: You can check menu settigns there? Take pics/videos and this appears black in the pc monitor after transference or download pics/videos? If your answer is yes, dont sound like a LCD problem.

The other choice, could be a malfunctioning CCD (Charge Coupled Device) image sensor... in both cases (LCD or CCD) this isn't a job that you could solve yourself; this wrong include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

I suggest check this link for additional details in this previous solutions for an Defective CCD and next contact your Samsung service.
I strongly suggest (taking into consideration the age of your camera) to evaluate the cost of repair versus the cost of a new camera with similar features, before making a final desicion.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

The same condition appears when you transfer this pics at PC ? I want to put my LPs to an external hard drive, what do i have to do?

Plug your turn table into your input sound card (line in on your sound card) Use a program like Nero Media Player, or any digital recording program ( Sound Blaster or Wave Studio) Tell it to save the file as mp3, that simple. If you are an experienced Computer user and have a Wave Recording program such as Audacity [free] or Adobe Audition [$$$] you can do this: 1. Your record player must have a LINE OUT.....usually go from your stereo receiver [You can get turntables with internal Line outputs...this is what I have...via ebay] 2. Output from Receiver [turntable] must be the small [headphone like plug...used to be called Sony Plug...now it's the 3/32nd I believe.... 3. plug this into the line in of the sound card....it's the arrow that points INTO the little hole. Now the sound card can read the signal.....but wait...! 4. You must enable the little box in the sound card properties called "Line IN"....put the check mark there. 5. How to get to the Properties? Bottom right of screen there should be a speaker ICON....double click that. Then go to File....Properties....record.....then look for the LINE IN....check it. If you don't see it. Then you have to ask someone in person to help you. 6. If you get it working. Great! 7 Now open a recording program and press record....then play the record. You should see a wave file going across the screen. Then save it as an MP3 file. 8. Advanced tip: if you record at a rate of 59594 instead of 44100 then you can play the 33 1/3 speed at 45 RPM and save about 30% time in recording from a record. Then convert back to 44100 and it will be normal speed. I do this on ALL my LP to MP3 recordings... The above is for more advance type computer users.

No pic or sound when recording

Please get a Hi 8 cleaning cassette and run it in the camera for a few seconds. you may have to do this several times for the head to be completely cleaned unfortunately for Hi8 you will not hear the sound when there is no picture on playback.

Lost LCD Screen

You MAY just have a dirty playback head. Purchase a head cleaning tape (Bestbuy, Target, etc., for about $20) and try cleaning your playback head. Colored lines is ONE symptom of a dirty head. A blue screen is ANOTHER. I had that symptom yesterday (9/7/07), got a cleaning tape and solved the problem. I can now again see on the LCD display what I recorded on the tape. Good luck.
