Question about GE XL1800 1100 Watts Microwave Oven
Just installed a 2 yr old GE Spacemaker XL 1800 Micro/hood combo - Model JVM1850SH04 - mfg. Jul 2005. Had to replace the previously broken glass light lens with a new GE replacement glass -- this is tempered glass and covers the 2 halogen bulbs that are responsible for surface and night lights. The lights work - surface and dimming for night light ... but within several hours ... the glass lens broke ... in two places ... from the heat of the halogen lights. I can get replacement lens as there is lifetime replacement ... but what's to keep it from happening again? Are the halogen lights too hot? Also, when selecting the vent fan -- it starts on high, but when scrolling through to med and low ... doesn't seem to change the fan speed ... but the vent boost does kick it up a notch. What's the cause of this? Thanks
The lights do get very hot, so they must be a sufficient distance from the lens. Was there an instruction sheet with the new lens? You may need to adjust the sockets upward. You might call a local GE-authorized servicer to see. Concerning the vent fan, this is a problem with the control panel assembly, which we repair nationwide for $39.95. The bulb which comes in the shape of circular wire is not lighting up red to indicate heat is generating.
