My 2 year old duet washer is very stinky. I leave the tub door and the soap dispenser door open when not in use. Even so, epecially after doing several loads in a row I have a very stinky machine and clothes. There is mold growing on the surface of the grey rubber gasket at the tub door. What should I do about stinkiness and mold? thank you
I work at Whirlpool, and we recommend a product called Affresh to help eliminate washer odor. Affresh washer cleaner tablets break up many of the residues that bacteria, mildew and mold grow on, and it removes them, leaving you a cleaner washing machine.
For a limited time, they’re running a promotion on whirlpool’s website that will get you free shipping on a 3 –pack of Affresh tablets! You just enter EAF822 as the promo code, and they’ll ship you the packet at no cost to you!
Make a boil wash (with no clothes and detergents) put in the powder's drawer a cup of bicarbonate of soda. It should clean the machine and move out the bad smell. Good luck!
Do NOT close the washer door when it's not in use.
Had mine for over 2 years and it's as fresh as the day we got it.
I've never closed the door when it's not in use.

are you on a well??
do you use bleach in with your whites??
some well water untreated can cause exceptionally stinky machines, especially if no or very little bleach is used during white washing..
usually if you use bleach in with your whites in normal amounts and leave the door open in between uses there should be very little stinky odor or mold growth.
the mold growing on the gasket is a sign of to little bleach or none being used, and/or a really damp environment for the unit to reside in.
they do make several cleaners designed just for stinky front loader washers..
they might help..
i've been using a front loader for 13 years, leave the door ajar between uses, and use bleach in every white load and have had no issues with stinky unless i or someone else doing wash forget and close the door for a couple days, then it gets stinky but goes away after white load with bleach and hot water..
hope this helps,
best of luck,

The gray seal on the door is covered in mold at the bottom and if you
lift the seal up the underside is covered in mold. Also the soap and detergent dispenser stay half full of water after washing a load of clothes.
For some reason it does not drain and the water creates mold.
Solutions tried.Cleaned the door seal with a mild soap solution.Ran one
empty load with vinegar and one with a clorax solution. It did not improve
the mold problem.I'm discouraged.Please HELP
We have the same problem. Clothes smell fine, but washer stinks. I will try the bicarbonate. I tried cascade in the soak cycle, clorox clean up in the soak cycle, and spraying the grey gasket with comet spray gel, but nothing has worked. I have even left it open to dry and it still stinks.
We have a duet and our towels and clothes stink. They smell sour and of mildew. Looking for answers on the net and have found many similar complaints, but no solutions... I've also seen comments about the door handles breaking, which we've experienced on both washer and dryer. - Drew in Austin, TX.
My daughter's washer smells the minute you walk in her front door. It has a horrible mold smell. We have used the affresh tablets, but it still stinks. I also have the duet, and mine has a cleanse cycle. You put 2/3 cup of bleach in the dispenser, and run a special load. Mine is fine--I do it monthly. Please help
I had these same pieces of ****. Same problems, tried everything. My ex also has a set and loves em. I moved and sold mine but my issue is where is all this great savings if you have to sanitize once a month with $8.00 pills and run an empty load through.
I have accidently 'LOCKED' my Whirlpool Duet washer. When I bought my washer, I bought it as a 'floor model' from Lowe's, so I have no manual on it. Can someone -- anyone -- tell me how to UNLOCK my washer??? I can't get it to do anything!! Not even come on!! The light comes on, but not the washer!
We owned this washing machine for 6 years. Extremely disappointed. Mildew was growing on the rubber gasket, my wife tried everything (bleach, Affresh, vinegar, leaving the door open) to keep it clean and get rid of the smell but to no avail. I developed acute sinusities due to the mildew and also suffered from uncontrollable itching which started right around the same time that we noticed the mildew (about 3 years ago). The handle was cracked on the door from normal use. The final straw was when the computer board started to give us problems. A load of laundry would take 2 hours or it would stop while in the middle of washing the clothes. We got rid of it a month ago, and I haven't had a problem with itching since then. Coincidence? I highly doubt it.
i cannot get rid of the odor either. I have tried spraying the gasket with a mildew cleaner and also running bleach through a cycle.
There is also mildew present under the rubber gasket. I also have a lot of condensation on the in side of the door when the door is left closed and not in use.
I moved the washer to clean the floor and noticed water sloshing around in the bottom of the washer. Please HELP
Water accumulates in front rubber ring resulting in mold. Water remains in washer after wash is complete.
