Toshiba Satellite 1805-s253 memory upgrade

Recently I attempted to upgrade the memory from 256 megs to 512.

I purchased 2 256 modules (pc100 non ecc sdram sodimm) and when I put them in, the computer would only start to the BIOS. When I went to the BIOS, the total ram reading was around 383megs. So, I removed 1 and restarted the computer and it booted up so I decided to shut down and switch the memory modules and again, it booted up with no problem (I tried both modules alone).

When I put in the 1 256 and add the 128 module (that was previously in the computer), it booted up ok with about 383 megs.

The BIOS is the last known update 2.20

The manual for the Satellite 1805-s253 shows a maximum amount of ram upgrade to 512.

Anyone have this issue with a Toshiba and is there a correction as have contacted Toshiba on a few occasions but they insist they known nothing about it and that for me to have it "fixed" would cost a lot since it is out of warranty...
Thank you!
Bonnie

The computer came with double sided ram and it always worked when I went from 128 to 256 (2x 128). So, I can't understand why it should matter now.

Keep a smile on your face and love in your heart!

Usually this means it supports 512 mb of "Single sided" ram, which is rarer and more expensive... the usual ram you buy now is double-sided.. which will often only see one of the sides in older machines.

Upgrade CD/DVD ROM to CD-RW/DVD ROM

I just replaced my original CD/DVD ROM with a Toshiba SD-R2512 CD-RW/DVD ROM in my 1805-S253 running Windows ME. I used "Roxio Easy CD Creator" for writing to CD's. Everything was "plug'n'play" except the bezel that came with the new drive had to be swapped out. Windows ME recognized the new drive immediately and I didn't have to load any new drivers. This upgrade will probably work on other 1800 or 1805 Satellite series machines.

Toshiba Satellite Pro M15-S405 Memory upgrade problem

This usually happens when the laptop is not able to take more then a certain amount of memory, as the system BIOS does not support higher. By saying ACPI as the blue screen, that tells me that the power subsystem does not 'like' having more then 512MB of RAM. I am 95% sure this is your BIOS because of that information. Check and see if you can find a BIOS upgrade for your computer model, and that might fix the issue, if an update is available.

I have a P3 at 500MHz and was wondering with this Motherboard,

The motherboard has three, dual in-line memory module (DIMM) sockets. Minimum memory size is 16 MB; maximum memory size is 768 MB. The largest DIMM supported at this time is 256 MB using unbuffered 128 Mbit technology parts. The BIOS automatically detects memory type, size, and speed.

The motherboard supports the following memory features:
  • 168-pin DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
  • 66 or 100 MHz SDRAM
  • Non-ECC (64-bit) and ECC (72-bit) memory
  • 3.3 V memory only
  • Unbuffered Single- or double-sided DIMMs in the following sizes:

DIMM Size Non-ECC Configuration ECC Configuration 16 MB 2M x 64 2M x 72 32 MB 4M x 64 4M x 72 64 MB 8M x 64 8M x 72 128 MB 16M x 64 16M x 72 256MB 32M x 64 32M x 72

Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) can be installed in one, two, or three sockets. EDO DIMMs are not supported. Memory size and speed can vary between sockets.

Note: Intel® Pentium® II processors with 100 MHz front-side bus should be paired only with 100 MHz SDRAM. Processors with 66 MHz front-side bus can be paired with either 66 MHz or 100 MHz SDRAM.

All memory components and DIMMs used with the Intel® SE440BX-2 motherboard should comply with the PC SDRAM specifications. These include: the PC SDRAM Specification (memory component specific), the PC Unbuffered DIMM Specification, and the PC Serial Presence Detect Specification.

Note: It is recommended that SPD memory DIMMs be used with the SE440BX-2 motherboard. However, the BIOS will allow the use of non-SPD DIMM memory.

So the max you can go is 3 x 256 MB.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate fixya.

Toshiba satellite a100,wa-1 memory upgrade

Hi,

Take out all the memory cards and wipe the gold part of the memory modules.

Then insert the two 512 modules & check the memory.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then insert the 1 gb & other one 512 module.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then use the other one gb with the same 512 & check if it shows the correct readings.

Then the two 2 gb modules are fine.

Now insert the two 1 gb modules & check now.

There are ECC type & non-ECC type memory modules are available, chck which one your computer supports & which type you have.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected and fine.

Then you can also swap the slot and check if any memory module is not detectd correctly.

Some have four slots & i dont know how many slots your laptop have.

Good Luck.

Laptop Freezes

it sounds like the memory may be at issue as it heats up it dies, then cools down.
if you have 2 sticks of memory take one out and see if it will run.
if not switch to other stick.
if still not running remove all memory as the system should have 64 meg of onboard non removeable memory .

as per this google :

---------------------------------------------------

windows may not boot and run at all with 64 meg so you can enter the bios screen and let it sit there,

instead of trying to unplug the system to kill it just hold the power button for 10 seconds and it should die.maybe.
