Toshiba 27D46 27" TV Logo

Question about Toshiba 27D46 27" TV

1 Answer

Hourglass Picture Hi, the picture on my tv has gone into a sort of hourglass shape with the rest of the screen being in black. Also there is a band of varying colours at the top. I don't think it has been subjected to anything out of the ordinary. Any ideas? Thanks.

Pulling in from the sides usually results from poor regulation or width problems related to the horizontal circiut. These are not usually repaireable by a non technician.

If hour glass on conventional set it is either pincussion circuit or power supply---by split screen if you mean folded over top to bottom in the middle that is in the same areas.

Picture is smaller, has hourglass shape, no sound

Took back off, removed control board and inspected for bad solder joints. found no obvious problem. Cleaned and reinstalled. Working ok now. I'm crossing my fingers.

Have you ever had this problem?

Sorry Ginko, but a convergence problem would have the curves down from the top and up from the bottom. The hourglass shape is a pincushion problem. This can be as simple as a bad capacitor in the pincushion circuit.

Could you please confirm the model number so I can look up the probable part?

Thanks,
Dan

Vertical hold will adjust the frequency (refresh) which would remedy it if the picture was rolling. I had to open up my TV (not recommended unless you know what you're doing) and adjust a "pot" which will adjust your screen's hourglass problem. I hope this helps.

Hi, It sounds like your TV has a Pincushion problem based on your post/description. There is a big chance that this is just a colder solder/loose connection but of course an on-site diagnosis would be better. Since this involve opening the unit and working on the electronics inside, I would suggest that you seek the services of a qualified TV professional.
