I had to take apart my DS because the plastic hinge broke. I bought a new shell and replaced it fine. However, I cannot get the L and R buttons to work properly when I put the console back together. I have them in their correct spots and work fine, but then when I snap on the bottom of the console the buttons get stuck down as if something is pressing on it tight. The only thing I can think of is maybe I have the small spring that goes on the L & R buttons placed wrong.
Thanks for any help
I've been working on my nephews....I noticed that the springs are directional, and need to be placed on the correct button or it won't spring back properly.

There out it is nothing like a broken hinge only repair solution, the only way to get it repaired is to buy a new replacement shell and replace the broken parts or the whole shell, but some cheap shells wont last and will broke again so read reviews. And if you are not too skilled be careful when replacing or you can get your DS more damaged.
The best is to find a good case broken DS, like water damage etc. to get only the original plastic parts. I should love to have to buy only the broken parts needed but you have to buy the whole thing.
yes the shell can be replaced, you can either check ebay or google nintendo ds lite shell housing, i have seen them, doing this yourself is no easy task, there is a repair service on ebay under repair service fix nintendo ds lite
I have tried plenty of ways but this plastic cant be pasted easily and the hinge crack the junction again so basically you need a new hinge piece, something saddly cant be bought alone, you need to buy a whole shell.
If not under nintendo 1year warranty, the best thing you can do to kill this problem is take the DS to a videogame repair service to replace the shell before the top screen or the whole DS suffer more damage. You can also consider to buy and change the shell by yourself. The bad new is anyway you need some money to repair it.
You can use the DS carefully meanwhile the top part dont get completelly out of place.
Well, you can buy a hinge from a lot of places, but the wire that broke, you are going to have to try and fix the wire, get it connected again so that it will work. The only other solution is that you will have to send it in to get fixed.
