good thing is it seems like a software fault not hardware, when it isn't working check to see if the drivers are still there and if they are updated. something may be deleting the drivers for the device like a virus. so there may be a program that you use after you recover that sends it to **** again. Download Avast! antivirus and use that, best protection around.
To check to see if the DVD/CD has the drivers click start -> right click computer -> click manage -> (wait for screen to load) click on device manager and navigate to the cd/dvd rom drive. you can manage the drivers from there and update, locate the driver and backup, rollback drivers etc..
Hi, Sorry there is no hidden recovery partition on the HDD, you should have got a recovery disk with the operating system on and also a driver and utility CD. Have you got these CD's?
You can find drivers at www.hp.com. Pick "Support & Drivers" then put the model number of your computer into the search box and you'll get the downloads available.
Note that "Presario" is just the generic name for that series of computer. You'll need the actual model number (5BW24, 5001R, etc.) which will be on a sticker somewhere on the case. Don't forget to look behind the flip-down CD compartment door on the front of some models. The label is sometimes hidden inside.
