Remove the main battery, (not the cmos battery) remove the power adapter from the laptop. Plug in the laptop with the battery still out. This should reset the power logic.

WHERE IS THE BIO BATTERY LOCATED

Acer Aspire cmos battery

Remove the Phillips screws that secure the motherboard cover (refer to your owner's manual if necessary), then release the cover from the clips on the bottom of the plastic casing.

Lay the cover aside, then locate the CMOS battery cable on the right side of the motherboard. Unplug the cable, then remove the battery.

laptop cmos battery

tip

How to replace the CMOS battery in an Acer Aspire laptop.

General info
All laptops have a CMOS battery. The main purpose for the CMOS battery is to store the system time, date and BIOS settings even if the computer is turned off or the main battery dies. Individual Acer Aspire laptop models differ somewhat, but the general steps are the same when replacing a dead CMOS battery.

Before you start
1) Read through the owner's manual for your particular Acer Aspire laptop to determine what kind of CMOS battery you need.
2) Purchase the battery through Acer or a local or online computer parts dealer.
3) Turn the laptop off and unplug it. Also unplug any external hard drives, cameras, or other external devices.
4) Turn the laptop over (bottom facing up), then touch something metal to remove static charge.

Removal of the CMOS battery
Remove the Phillips screws that secure the motherboard cover (refer to your owner's manual if necessary), then release the cover from the clips on the bottom of the plastic casing. Lay the cover aside then locate the CMOS battery cable on the right side of the motherboard. Unplug the cable then remove the battery.

The battery should look something like this

slasher_x_2.gif
Plugging the new battery in
Plug the new CMOS battery cable into the motherboard. Slide the battery partially under the laptop casing (somewhere to hold it in place), then align the cover with the slots on the bottom of the laptop housing. Replace the screws then turn the laptop back over.

Finalizing
1) Turn the laptop on.
2)Enter your BIOS (usually by pressing the "Delete" key) before the operating system loads.
3) Follow the BIOS prompts or refer to your Acer Aspire owner's manual to reset your time, date and desired system settings.

Reason: Anytime the CMOS battery is unplugged for more than a few seconds your BIOS will be reset to the default manufacturer settings. If you make any changes to the BIOS that cause problems with your Acer Aspire, unplug the CMOS battery for 3 to 5 seconds to correct the problem.

Replace bios battery

http://www.asus.com/Motherboard/P5KPLAMPS/

FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.

Relieve your body of Static BEFORE, reaching inside your unplugged from power, computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open;
TOUCH an unpainted surface of the metal frame, of the open computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

IF, you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again, upon your return.

Motherboard installed in computer case, the CMOS battery, (BIOS battery), is located at the Bottom/Right corner; above the four Red SATA connectors.

The CMOS Battery holder has a lock clip on one side.
This clip is eased to the Outside edge, in order to release the CR2032 CMOS Battery. (A type of watch battery)

Suggest use a stiff plastic object to release lock clip.
Most however, use a small Jewelers flat tipped screwdriver.

You want to JUST press on the Lock Clip itself.

The battery should just pop-up a little. Then a fingernail is used to lift that side up, to access the battery.

When reinstalling remember the Positive ( + ) side ALWAYS goes UP.

After locking the new battery in, make sure no cables were accidentally pulled loose.
Also just for ease of mind, try to push the Ram Memory module/s in ('Stick') more. Make sure the Locks on both ends are locked in place.

A lot of times the Ram Memory modules get bumped loose, accidentally.

Close the computer case. Plug computer back into power.
WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

Go to the taskbar at the bottom of the Windows screen, and to the right.
-> Right-click on the Time.
Now reset the Date/Time to what it should be.
Need guidance on that post back in a Comment.

I have a satellite A105 and When i turn it on it asks for password but I don't have the password. So how to I get past this to be able to use it again?

just remove the cmos battery

the bios stores the password and the cmos battery provides it power to store it

if you remove cmos battery the bios reverts to factory settings and the password is removed

cmos battery is different than the laptop backup battery

cmos battery is found inside the laptop case on the motherboard, you will have to open the laptop to remove the cmos battery

MY PC HAS BOOTING PROBLEM

Hi bridey28, when you replaced the cmos battery & the bios did not maintain the correct time than the cmos is not at fault. More likely its your power supply. The cmos receives its power (Recharge) from the power supply. An average cmos battery should last for 5 years. The fact that you attempt to power up the PC & you have to wait, points to a power supply problem. Not a bios problem.
Bios corruption is rare, unless you have tried to flash the bios & it failed. Replace the power supply before attempting flashing the bios. Every manufacture warns against flashing the bios. Only flash the bios if your 100% sure that it will correct a bios malfunction. If the issue presist after replacing the power supply, Intel has instructions of (How to flash the bios) on their site.
Here are the instruction from Intel for your MB model number.
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/5519/ENG/BIOS%20Update%20Readme.pdf

You'll need this link to download the bios file;
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=899&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go%21#SAP

Good luck bridey28!

How to safely remove the CMOS battery

The battery is a button type battery, you can release by pressing the metal clip to the side and the battery should pop up, if not use a thin blade screw driver to lift the battery up whilst pressing the metal clip to the side, Do not hold the battery (top & bottom) with metal tweeters, you will create a short circuit condition.

Need to reset bios password for acer 4620 laptop. tryed removing battery on mb . no good . ? passmord bios

Try removing the main battery and the CMOS battery (ie the battery on the mb). If you don't want to wait for 1/2 hour for the CMOS to discharge then short out the CMOS battery connections with a bent paper clip.
Then without instralling both battery, power up your laptop, you should then get into the BIOS, power off and re-install your batteries.
