Blue screen compaq presario windows xp sp2 cq40

Did you just install a new program or a piece of hardware, update a driver, install an update, etc.? If so, there's a very good chance that the change you made caused the BSOD:
Startup using Last Known Good Configuration to undo recent registry and driver changes.
Use System Restore to undo recent system changes.
Roll Back device driver to version prior to your driver update.

Scan your computer for viruses. Some viruses can cause a Blue Screen of Death, especially ones that infect the master boot record (MBR) or boot sector.

Update drivers for your hardware. Most Blue Screens of Death are hardware or driver related so updated drivers could fix the cause of the STOP error.

Return hardware settings to default in Device Manager. Unless you have a specific reason to do so,the system resources that an individual piece of hardware is configured to use in Device Manager should be set to default. Non-default hardware settings have been known to cause a Blue Screen of Death.

Return BIOS settings to their default levels. An overclocked or misconfigured BIOS can cause all sorts of random issues, including BSODs.

If this doesn't helps you then simply get the system utility program like PC Fresher that will fix windows errors that cause of blue screen

How to Install Drivers to your computer ?

A device driver refers to a program (software) normally developed by the hardware manufacturer to allow it to interact with the computer system. This driver program is used by the different components and applications in the machine to execute a specific task like printing, DVD reading and writing, or connecting to the Internet among others. Device drivers are generally specific to the underlying Operating System and hardware, which means that the correct version must be installed to ensure proper operation of the supported device. You can do this by either re-installing the original driver for your device or to upgrade to new drivers.
Here are the steps on how to reinstall a device driver:
  1. Log on to your computer as an administrator
  2. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and click Manage
  3. Under System Tools, click Device Manager
  4. In the right pane, expand any of the categories to find the hardware you need to reinstall. Right-click the device, and then click Uninstall
  5. In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the OK button
  6. If you see a message asking if you want to restart your computer, click Yes. You can also manually restart your computer
  7. After the restart, Windows should automatically detect and reinstall the hardware.
Upgrading drivers for pre-existing devices
  1. Open Windows Device Manager. In the Device Manager locate the device you wish to update the drivers for.
  2. Right-click the device and click Properties.
  3. In the Properties window click the Driver tab.
  4. Click the Update Driver button.
  5. In the Hardware Update Wizard point Windows to the location of the updated drivers on your hard disk drive.
  6. Once drivers have been installed, reboot.
After you computer has restarted, Windows will use the previous version of your driver. If you're still having difficulties getting the device to work properly, it's possible you're encountering a hardware issue and not an issue with the drivers. Refer to the troubleshooting steps for your hardware device for additional help and information.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A Code 43 error message indicates that the Microsoft Windows operating system has stopped a hardware device because it has failed. Although the problem might be a technical fault with the hardware device, troubleshooting the device's software drivers will often fix the problem. Troubleshoot a Code 43 error from the Windows Device Manager or by downloading updated device drivers.

Windows displays the Code 43 error message and prevents the hardware device from activating when one of the drivers controlling the hardware notifies the operating system that the device has failed. If your computer displays a Code 43 error, Microsoft advises you to first check the hardware device's documentation for advice on common problems and how to troubleshoot the device. This may include reinstalling the device. If the hardware seems to be working properly, try troubleshooting the device drivers. b> Device Troubleshooting Wizard b> Windows includes an integrated troubleshooting wizard for hardware devices. To access this feature, open the "Devices and Printers" folder from the Start menu. Right-click the device and then select "Troubleshoot" from the context menu. Windows automatically checks the device and attempts to detect and automatically fix problems. You might need to click the "Yes" button during the procedure to download software or driver updates. Update Drivers With Windows Update b> Updating hardware device drivers with the Windows Update tool can also fix hardware problems. Click "Check for Updates" in the left pane of the Windows Update tool that you can access from the computer's Control Panel. Windows Update displays the number of important, recommended and optional updates in the main pane. On the "Select Updates You Want to Install" page, click and enable the check box for the hard drivers that you want to install. Click "OK" to automatically download and install the items. b> Update Drivers With the Device Manager b> If you don't want to rely on Windows Update, you can also manually update drivers for the problematic hardware with the "Device Manager" tool that you can access from the Control Panel. Double-click on the faulty hardware, which the Device Manger might label with yellow-black exclamation mark icon. Click the "Driver" tab in the dialog window, and then click the "Update Driver" button. Windows checks for driver updates and, if found, automatically installs the new drivers. You might need to restart your computer at the end of this process. b> Service and Repair b> If you can't resolve the problem by following the recommendations in the manufacturer's help documentation, or by troubleshooting the device and updating drivers with Windows, you might need to contact the manufacturer to arrange for the device to be serviced or repaired. You should find service and repair information or contact details in the device's user manual or in the support section of the manufacturer's website. Cd drive code 39

What the Code 39 Error Is
CD-ROM/DVD Drive Cannot Start. (Code 39)
Code 39 is an error specific to the device manager. It is directly associated to drivers and errors that have occurred within them. Drivers are the small pieces of software that your hardware devices use to function. Each hardware device has it's own unique driver, developed by the hardware manufacturer, that contains the instructions allowing the hardware device to cooperate with other hardware devices and communicate with the operating system. Drivers are essential to the normal operation of any computer as they bridge the gap between hardware software.
Code 39 errors are amongst a wide array of device manager errors that all point to the same problem: the driver. It is not uncommon for drivers to become corrupted and produce errors during normal operation. Drivers are accessed constantly for every operation that a hardware device performs. Because of this, there are thousands of opportunities for errors during a single session of Windows. Because of this high rate of failure opportunity, many users have experienced Code 39 errors as well as many other device manager errors.
manually fixing Code 39 errors. Updating to the most current driver will replace the corrupted file with a new, better driver. Updating the driver will not only correct Code 39 errors but it will also introduce greater speed, performance, stability and compatibility. Driver updates are changes that the developer made to the original driver in the interest of all-round improvement. Driver updates often correct many other errors that are related to device incompatibitlity. To learn how to fix Code 39 errors manually, read this guide. The guide will provide steps for manually finding, downloading and installing the most current driver avaiable for your hardware devices. However, it is generally MUCH easier, safer and more reliable to use an automated tool. We've discussed using an automated tool to fix Code 39 errors below.
DriverUpdate.DriverUpdate is an easy-to-use tool that scans your unique hardware configuration for any device driver problems. Drivers that are out of date, missing, misconfigured or corrupt can easily be re-installed automatically by the program. The benefits of this program are endless. Most users not only have error messages fixed, but also will see a performance improvement since all of their system drivers can be updated! ( click here to download DriverUpdate ) RECOMMENDED

None of my usb ports work on my hp pavilion dv7-4051. in the device manager it says that a program or hardware issue is involved. it says that a file or something is missing, or corrupt. i dont know what...

Try visiting HP's support site for latest drivers for your supported model?
Also, right click "my computer" and select manage. From there, select Device Manager and look for any Unknown Device/Driver (yellow icon with ! mark).
You might be missing/needing an updated driver for the computer to use the USB ports. Windows updates won't necessarily include the model/make specific driver.
Note: please be more specific with HP model as there are several 4051 (entertainment model), along with version of Windows (7 (32bit or 64bit). Look for latest BIOS and update that, along with any chipset and storage drivers that might be applicable to your model.

Error during capture error code 800706f8

The very first step is of course to check your webcam connection. Most webcams use the USB port to connect to the PC, so check if your USB cable is properly plugged. For build-in webcams this steps does of course not apply. Many new laptops have a build-in webcam. Also try connecting your webcam directly to your PC instead of through a USB hub (if you are using one).
The next thing is to do is to check your Windows Device Manager and see if the hardware is recognized and installed properly.
It might be that the hardware is recognized as a camera, but the right drivers are not installed. The yellow explanation mark will indicate a problem.
windows-xp-other-device.jpg If the device is not recognized in Windows XP, it will be listed under Other Devices.
windows-vista-device-error.jpg In either case you can try to update the drivers. Right-click the device, and in the popup menu select Update Driver Software. Then follow the instructions on screen, but make sure you allow Windows to search the web for updated drivers.
In case no driver for the webcam can be found, you can try a third party driver finding program that scans your PC for installed hardware and allows you to install missing drivers.
If this fails, the next step would be to uninstall the software that came with your webcam. Use the Add or Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel. If that does not work you can use a third party uninstaller.
After uninstalling the software, restart your PC and then reinstall the webcam software. In most cases this will solve the problems. Depending on the software, you might need to unplug your webcam during the software installation.
If the drivers and webcam software are correctly installed, and you still cannot see any video, there can be a problem with the program settings. Most chat and meeting software have a configuration option to select the video source for the webcam feature. If you have multiple devices that qualify for video, you might need to select your webcam device as the source for the webcam feature in that program.
Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right. But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date. But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing. Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10).
Lastly, if your webcam's image is not sharp, check to see if it has a focus ring. A blurry image can sometimes simply mean the webcam is not in focus. Adjusting the focus through the ring can solve that problem.
Other picture quality problems with webcams can be addressed by changing the video capture properties for the webcam. Most programs that can use a webcam will have an option to access the properties of the video source, which will bring up the video capture properties window.
video-capture-properties.jpg Do keep in mind that not all settings will be enabled depending on the webcam and the webcam driver installed on your computer. In the example you can see that some settings are disabled. The example shows the video capture properties for an Acer Crystal Eye webcam.
What else to try: download missing webcam drivers! If you are using your webcam for instant messaging with one of the popular chat programs, have a look at EatCam, which allows you to record your webcam chats from MSN, YM, ICQ, Skype, AIM and a few more!

Windows BSOD on all restarts, even in Safe Mode and even if I start with video in VGA mode. Stop code is 0x0000007E plus four more codes in parentheses. During Safe Mode restart the last file to appear on...

7E is a memory issue or general driver fault. It's windows way of saying "i dunno it just died". If you have Dell diagnostics, run a full system check, to ensure the hardware is ok. If you get no errors, then you have a driver fault in windows. This is From Microsoft:
---
If the following conditions are true, the issue might be a hardware incompatibility with Windows XP because all the installed drivers are Windows XP drivers:
  • You receive the STOP 0x7E error when you first start the computer.
  • You receive the STOP 0x7E error after you run the Setup program.
  • You did not install any third-party drivers during the installation of Windows.
However, if you receive the STOP 0x7E error after you upgrade from Windows 2000 Professional, or if you recently added a new hardware device, this issue might be an incompatible driver or an incompatible hardware device.
---
Basically, the 7E error is a defective driver. You will likely have to get your computer recovered by a professional shop, or if you have nothing important on it, attempt to reformat and reinstall. It is unfair that Windows has borked your computer and they wont fix it. I hope I was able to at least point you in the right direction.
