Dynex router won't communicate with the modem.

If you connect the modem to the computer, does it go online ?
If your computer is online through the modem, then the modem is working properly.
Check the connections between the modem and the router.
Reset the router for 30 seconds , unplug the power to the router and plug it back in. Wait for 1 minute and set up the router again manually.

Dynex wireless G router

When the installation software asked me if I performed the steps in the Quick Installation Guide, I just said yes. Here's what I had done prior (I'm not saying this is what the guide says to do, but, I was able to set up my DYNEX Wireless Enhanced G Router after having done these steps):
  1. Connected the power cable and plugged it in to the wall.
  2. Connected the Internet cable from my DSL modem to the Green port on the back of the router.
  3. Connected my PC using an RJ-45 cable to one of the blue ports on the back of the router.

Dynex e401 router

Don't buy dynex routers of any kind!!!

Dynex intentionally has it set up to browse the web through their 3rd party systems (rather than directly through your own IP) when you use their routers. So once you enter all of your IP account information with them, you start browsing the web through their own 3rd party server systems so that they can run background web content in order to boost page views for their affiliates! This slows down your web activity, especially if you using multiple computers with one of their routers! Why send users through dynex 3rd party servers to browse the web? Because the more page views that are coming from multiple IP address, the more SPONSORS they can get to support their websites!

Dynex routers are a SCAM in order to get people to browse the web through their own 3rd party servers!!! Why is it that when I type in a web address (after hooking up their router, and attempting to set it up) that instead of saying “waiting for google.com” or “transferring data from google.com” it says “transferring data from http://192.168.1.1/” which is the dynex website! Why would it allow me to only lookup their website (to configure settings) but then block all other web content until setting have been configured??? Think about this, their website isn't already on your computer, it has to be accessed through the internet in order to load onto one's computer. That means the internet is already working through their router, they are just restricting access to other sites until you configure your settings to go through their 3rd party servers for all of your web browsing!

I have used many routers before, and NEVER have I been asked to configure settings on some website before being able to use the product! Most REAL routers don't require any setup or configuration of any type. As long as you properly install everything, and your computers are internet / ethernet ready then you should be good to go. Usually if a router requires some sort of setup online where you are blocked access to all other internet sites until you configure through the manufacturers' site then it's most likely a scam product! A product that serves as a front for getting massive page views (for their sites and affiliates) in order to get lots of sponsorship for having high web traffic!

If you are in the market for real ethernet routers then you should buy d-link, or linksys products instead of dynex! In my opinion, dynex is total JUNK! BUYER BEWARE!!! Don't waste your money on this!!!
