i tried resetting and adjusting all plugs and I still get gray bars on hdmi and just scan

  • pieguy333 Mar 13, 2009

This occourred after my wife made some "adjustment" while I was not at home.I am sure there must be a way to fix this via the menus

  • pieguy333 Mar 13, 2009

I have dish DVR-not a cable box-sorry for the lack of info. I checked the settings in dvr setup and they show 1080i and 16:9 output

  • pieguy333 Mar 13, 2009

I have gone over all the remote settings-the funny thing is a message pops up that says gray bar when the television first turns on-I just can't find a way to undo it.

  • pieguy333 Mar 13, 2009

I will try the power button reset but having unplugged it I don't forsee a different outcome

  • pieguy333 Mar 13, 2009

Thankyou-you are a genius-I knewit had to be something simple that way but there are just so many options.

If you have the DISH Network DVR, then the Lower Left button on the remote says format, use it to change the format of you screen mre than likely it is just on Gray bar and needs to be on normal.

Hope this helps...

If the source is not truly a full, native 1080 picture, you will often get" filler" panes on either side. Remember that HD channels do not always mean 1080, some are in 720 and are up converted.
If any of the channels come in full screen mode this is probably your case.

Forcing the unit into 1080 I may also cause this problem. If you have the "auto" selction you could also try that

Hi,

I had this on one of my HD TV - bars at each end of the screen vertically.

We did the same what you did for weeks thinking it was the cables. It worked out that there was specific TV settings which had changed by mistake on the Remote control. Settings were different views i.e. cinematic or standard and another.

I hope this helps,

Thanks

Try reset .

Unplug the unit from power chord for 30 minutes and plug back the power chord to the unit .
This will reset your unit .

Remove all connections from dish and connect them once again to make sure it is not due to loose connection .

Upgraded to Hd and tv started messing up. Double images for first 10 minutes and sometimes tv picture goes off and lines up and down.

Your HDTV is capable of up to 1080P resolution. SDTV (standard def) signals are 480i; EDTV (enhanced def) is 480P; HDTV are 720P, (there is no 720i) 1080i and 1080P. Generally, those modes ending in "P" look better than those ending in "i". 1080i is the highest possible for broadcast TV, but BluRay disks and Directv have 1080P display capabilities.

The double picture you're describing sounds like the TV is set to display only standard or enhanced def signals while the Dish Network box is supplying it with HD signals. You should locate the control for the TV's resolution and make sure it is set to "1080P" and then set the output of your Dish Network set top box to the highest output it offers. Do the same for your BluRay player and any other devices, too.

Once set correctly, you should have a great picture once again. I hope this helps & good luck!

I have dish network 622 and 722 dvr receivers. this same issue happens on both receivers. when i put the picture in picture screens side by side, one is in widescreen with the black bars above and below...

Justin Warshowsky,

There is no way to change the format once PIP is in use. Try unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. I would also recommend making sure your formats on both TV's are set correctly.

If the problem persists, send me an email at [email protected] and I can look into submitted a report to our Operations team to check it out.

DISH VIP612 Amplifier Control

DISH Solo DVR VIP612 Amplifier / Receiver Control

7c06801.jpg

Would you like to program the Universal Remote that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control the volume of your receiver, tuner, or stereo instead of your TV's volume?

e818a57.jpg

The first step in using the Universal Remote Control that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control the volume level of your receiver, tuner, or stereo is to program the remote to control your audio device using the AUX mode button.

Once your remote controls your audio device in AUX mode, you probably want to continue to control the volume of your stereo even if the remote is in SAT, TV or VCR mode.

To setup your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote to control the volume of your stereo regardless of which mode it is in, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the AUX button until all the mode buttons are lit, and then let it go.
  2. Press the POUND (#) button.
  3. Press the PLUS side of the VOLUME button.
  4. Press 0.
  5. Press the POUND (#) button. The AUX button flashes three times to tell you the programming is complete.
  6. Confirm the VOLUME buttons are operating the tuner/amplifier's volume control by pressing SAT or TV, and then adjusting the volume. Your tuner/amplifier's volume should change rather than your TV's volume.

Your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote is now setup to control the volume of your stereo regardless of which mode it is in

I hope that helps.

Would you like to autoscan program the Universal Remote that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control your TV, VCR, receiver, or stereo?

e818a57.jpg

To auto-program device codes into your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote by searching for the code, follow these steps:

  1. Turn the device you would like to control on.
  2. Press and hold the mode (TV, VCR, or AUX) button until all the other buttons light up, and then let go. The mode button will flash.
  3. FOR AUX MODE ONLY - Press 0 for a 2nd TV, 1 for a 2nd VCR, or 2 for a receiver, amplifier or tuner. Then press the STAR (*) button.
  4. Press POWER to put your remote into scan mode.
  5. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW repeatedly until your device turns off. Each arrow press tries the next code your remote knows for your selected device type. When your device turns off, you have found a compatible code. When the remote runs out of codes to try, the device will flash rapidly eight times.
  6. Press POUND (#). The mode button will flash three times as it stores the found code.
  7. Turn the device back on and try some of the other buttons to make sure they work. If all functions work, your remote has been successfully programmed.
  8. If the code didn't work, repeat this scanning procedure to find a more compatible code. When your device turns off during your next scan, press the arrow key again until the device turns back on to signify you have found the next compatible code.
Your device's remote control codes for your TV, VCR, or receiver are now programmed into your DISH Solo DVR ViP 612 remote control.

(The other way to program your DISH Solo DVR ViP 612 remote control is to look at the tables in back of the user manual, and enter the code directly.)

I hope that helps.
