Both handsets display "enter base id" after an attempt to fix a broken vonage connection through the customer service help line. i enter the number on the sticker on the base but after the restart the phone asks for the number again, leaving me completely phoneless... is there another way to find out the base id on the phone since i think the sticker might just be plain wrong?
Ya u need to contact v-tech vendor not vonage and gave them the serial no of ur handsets and get teh base id and try that will work
Registering Handsets with the Base Unit Note: Steps 1 and 2 are only necessary if the handset is registered to another base unit. If the handset is not registered to another base unit, begin on step 3. Note: New handsets will prompt for a Base ID after they charge. A base unit can have a maximum of 4 handsets registered to it at one timePower off base unit.
Press and hold SEL on the handset.
Enter BASE ID, found on the bottom of the VTECH IP 8100 base unit, once the prompt appears on the handset.
Press SEL to save it.
have u tried it sir

I did try to enter the base id as printed on the base unit - yes. as stated in my original posting, by the way.
vonage is the only one giving any support for the phone in canada. and they sent me a new base unit after a few hours on the (cell-)phone with them. apparently they cannot retrieve a certain base id through the serial number etc.
so the problem is solved, though not through this tread.
