I have an ipod classic with 20 gig. When I attempt to restore it it to original settings I get unknown error 1439. What can I do to get it to work again?

Symptoms When restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes 7 or later, I'm guessing you got a message saying an unknown error occurred 1469
ResolutionIf you are experiencing these errors, begin by updating to the latest version of iTunes. When you have the current version of iTunes, try the following:

  • Remove any third-party USB devices you have connected to your computer (it is not necessary to remove your keyboard or mouse).
  • Restart your computer without the iPod connected. While it is restarting, you will need to force your ipod into disc mode.
  • Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  • When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
  • Now, with the ipod in disc mode attempt to restore.
  • If that does not resolve your issue, try connecting your iPod to a different USB port and then attempt to restore.
  • If after all these steps you still have not been able to successfully restore your ipod, I would recommend going to:

  1. Disconnect and reconnect your iPod to iTunes, and then attempt to restore or update the iPod again.
  2. Restart your computer and then attempt to restore or update the iPod again.
  3. Try connecting your iPod to a different USB port, and then attempt to restore or update the iPod again. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port is recommended. For Windows computers, refer to Identifying USB 2.0 ports on your computer for instructions.

I have an ipod classic 160 gig but keep gettin the error code 1439 wen i try to restore what should i do?

Hi, now, when you restored your 80 gB classic, did you upgrade the firmware to 1.1.2?
If so, do not.
I refuse as my firmware 1.1.1 works the ipod great and the only trouble started (twice) on trying to update the firmware.
Try a hard factory reset:support.apple.com/kb/HT1339

Then, charge fully with AC charger (this was recommended to me twice in an Apple store)

After wards, use USB to connect to your computer and do not allow it to upgrade to 1.1.2

(See incidental article about ipod touch: rupertgee.wordpress.com/2007/12/02/downgraderestore-ipod-touch-firmware-to-version-111-using-os-x/ this might even work on ipod classic - you've got nothing to loose); also have a look at Apple's updates: apple.com/support/downloads/

This seemed to work for me:

1. Download latest version of iTunes
2. disconnect from internet (I did this by removing my wireless adapter).
3. Put iPod into disk mode (hold select and play until display says "disk mode" at the top).
4. Connect iPod to computer
5. You should be prompted to restore, click yes.
6. Message will appear saying can't connect to internet, do you want to restore to latest version "2.0.1" instead? (Something along those lines).
7. It should start restoring and work this time.

Error 1439 ipod 80gb

hi

Try installing itunes again. Then plug your ipod back to your pc. Access itunes then click device then click restore. If still error occurs try using a different pc/itunes to restore it.

My classic ipod says it needs restored before it works on itunes.I did this and then it says it could not be restore with an unknown error (1439). I clicked more info and did all the steps but it will not...

  1. Put the iPod on a flat surface to stabilize it.
  2. Slide the Hold switch on, then slide it off
  3. Hold down Select and Menu together for several seconds with two fingers.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release Select and Menu.
  5. If the iPod Classic doesn't reset, repeat the above step.

Have one nano 4gb red the problem is that i have erased all songs and when connected to pc says error1439
