No video/audio when trying to play Dreamcast

Recently a coworker gave me his dreamcast. He lost the AV Cable so I bought one online, it's an retro-bit AV Cable for dreamcast. When I connected it to my tv (LG LCD TV Model: 32LD452B) I get no audio/video. The dreamcast runs fine, it makes the noise when it starts to read the disk and I can hear it spin. The light showing that it's on is lite as well but still nothing coming from the tv it just says no signal. What can I do to fix this??

It's not moving the mainboard that causes problems to happen. Alot of people don't know but the screws inside the Dreamcast that hold the mainboard down are different sizes and there is a place where a longer screw isn't supposed to go and it will go in to far and touch the mainboard and cause problems. But that's besides the point of your question but could have been done before. There could be a bad capacitor or a break in the solder joint where the AV port is at also.

SOURCE: audio but no picture

Try using another RF cable. If that doesn't work then open up the system, and clean it out. Make sure there's no dust or anything that shouldn't be in there.

SOURCE: No picture&sound while Dreamcast is on

This may sound kind of crazy, but I was swapping my dreamcast from one shell to another (from the standard white/gray into a blue case) and I got the same behavior if the case wasn't put together properly. For me, just taking the top half of the case off by removing the four screws on the underside was enough to get it to boot properly... I'm guessing the cause of your problem is different, but I figure it couldn't hurt to pass along what I've learned...

SOURCE: My dreamcast comes on, but nothing shows on tv

Hi the chances are its the cable at fault try giving it a good wiggle all the way along and make sure its plugged into the dream and tv properly also make sure your tv is on the correct channel.

if you have got it plugged in via scart lead or the 3 coloured wires then you need to put the telly on av so find the button on the remote that says one of the following
av
source
input
or a rectangle with an arrow facing to the right
then press that button with the dreamcast on you may need to press it more than once depending on how many inputs the tv has .

let me know if you have any problems and still cant get a picture ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

How do I get the Dreamcast to work on a Hannspree HSG1116? I turn it on plug it in, everythings in tight yet I get "No Signal" flash around the screen on every possible channel. The Dreamcast...

Lemme guess.. Your trying to run it from the cable connection and not av-cables?

It's a pain trying to get a cable connecting game consoles working on newer televisions with a digital tuner installed. Your gonna have to go the annoying route of searching for the channel through your setup screen or you might be able to access the channel that it is set for using your remote for the tv (channels 3.0 and 4.0 still work with older consoles using the cable plug).

Just type in either of those channels with your controller unless you went the search route.

If your playing the Dreamcast with audio-video cables, you would have to find exactly which input your using.

Sega Dreamcast console problem

First off, NEVER store a game console on top of a subwoofer. It is like a giant magnet, and electronic devices do not handle magnetics. I don't think i've ever heard of a VGA box, Sega brand or not, killing a console. Millions use aftermarket AV cables and adaptors on all consoles without problem. I think it likely died from being on top of the sub. Relocate it and you should be fine. Running it for a few hours isnt likely either unless you had the vents entirely blocked.
To the guest who's drive isnt spinning, I would say your drive motor has burnt out. This doesn't indicate a defect in Dreamcasts, per se, it just means bad luck or excessive dust which killed it. Either buy a different Dreamcast or see if you can find a drive replacement.
Hope this helps.
