I think i damaged something with the hairdryer while trying to thaw my water in the door
An overheated solenoid will only affect the ice dispenser not the water section so we can rule that out. I would render a guess that the dispenser paddle is broken or melted. This would prevent the microswitch from making contact with the paddle. Replacing the paddle should fix the issue but you will have to verify.
I assume you have a GE fridge based on the frozen water line issue. Instead of heating the area with a hair dryer i have had great luck with this little trick. Purchase a container of "zoom spout oiler" which can be found on amazon. Empty the oil into a suitable container and flush the residual oil out with water. Next time it freezes fill the zoom spout oiler with hot water and extend the nozzle inside the frozen line and squeeze. I also disconnect the water line behind the kickplate under the freezer. Lock the dispenser so you don't accidentally pour water on your floor. Put a towel on the floor and when you clear the blockage at the dispenser water will flow onto the towel. Hope this helps you with your fridge!
