Hi, normally monitors have an indicator light that lites up when power is applied. This changes color or another lites up when it receives video signal from the computer. If no light then most likely defective monitor. Possibly the only way to positively check is to replace it with another known good monitor and connect to the PC. Power up and there should be a display. If there is then the 1st monitor is defective, if still nothing then it is the PC that is defective. It might also be worth to check/replace the power cord and/or video cable if applicable. Hopes this works out for you. Good luck and post again how things turn up.

VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 VHDCI doesn't seem to recognize monitors?

Try one monitor at a time, if you get nothing, reseat the card, if you get nothing try another port like display port or hdmi. If you get nothing take the card out and try the onboard graphics. IF you get something with the onboard, replace the card.

Hi paramvirgull...

Hook your laptop to an external monitor and see if the screen comes on...if it does then your lcd screen is faulty and needs replacment.
If it does not come on then re-download your video driver/s. If that does not work.
Maybe your lcd inverter or backlight bulb is faulty and needs replacement.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

My hp monitor is totally black it was working last night. i tried to unplug and replug it in and it came on for a few seconds then went black again

A lot of time people have the impression that the monitor is not working when in fact the computer is not booting its lighting up but nothing else so its stays on a black screen.

One way to know is by opening your speakers or plugging head phones, if you hear windows open or any windows sound the problem is the screen.

You can also unplug the screen from the pc and turn the screen on most of the time the screen while show a disconnected warning on the screen if that comes up the computer is defective.

Since you have tried another monitor with your computer, then we can only assume that your LCD monitor had gone bad.
If the light is green but you can't see anything on the screen, then most likely the backlight has gone bad. Unless you want to take the monitor apart, I would suggest buying a new monitor.

Computer turns on, but nothing happens

I had a similar problem with a Dell Computer. It turned out to be a bad memory card. If you have more than one memory card in the machine, take all of them out except for one. If that does not solve the problem, try swapping memory cards.

Monitor colour problem

I assume you tried another monitor cable as well, if you didnt, it is one of the most common causers of unbalanced colors. if you did, my guess is you have a bad color gun. It's a very common problem. in this case, a trip to the local repair shop is necessary. before you do, you can try pulling out the VRAM and reinstall it. its a long shot, but you got nothing to lose. good luck.
