Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V2500 40 in. LCD HDTV Logo

Picture turns off sound is on

Hi, I just bought a 40 inch Bravia kdl-40v2500. The picture is great, but at seemingly random intervals the picture turns off (goes black) - but the sound stays on. Turning the tv off and then on brings the picture back. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Same problem here, but with the 32" model. It used to be that the screen would black out and then come on after a few seconds. Now it's to the point where the screen is almost always blacked out, and only comes *on* for a few seconds. It's under warranty, thankfully, but I'd rather exchange it for a different model. This is ridiculous.

Have the same model - been having the same problem for months now. Seems to happen when changing channels from 1080 HD to non-HD channels or back. My non-professional guess is that it is tied to the up-converter. Also see double screen sometimes when we turn it on and it was last turned off on an HD channel.

Hi Anya, Im sorry to hear of your difficulties but very happy to know im not alone. I have the same exact Sony model and the same exact problem. I wasnt sure if it was my Tv or my upconvert Sansung DVD player. I spoke with Sony assistance..and well..they were of no assistance. They blamed it on my HDMI cable, then the dvd's i was playing, then the dvd player itself. I ruled out all of the above. Mine goes black when i play a dvd in the upconvert format (720p or 1080i) otherwise known as digital..but the analog signal goes through fine. Luckily i am within my 30 days since I bought it, so now that I have seen your posting and am certain its a tv issue, I think i will return it and buy a Samsun tv (a great alternative for same price with only drawback being a glossy screen=not good for bright rooms but amazing color clarity). Sorry I dont have answer for the problem other than your not alone on this one. I have read other Sony users listing similar issues. I hope all goes well with you and wish you the best Matthew

Have a new Sony Bravia KDL-40W500 keeps turning off into standby mode with 8 flashes.

Hello,

There is some confusion on the model (KDL-40W500 vs. KDL-40V2500), so I will direct this toward the 40V2500.

On the KDL-40V2500, an 8X blink means the scan processer has gone bad, and the BU board needs to be replaced. If the problem is intermittent, the the AU board might be the problem, but if it all the time, bank on the BU.

A competent repair shop should be able to help you, or you can try calling Sony directly for assitance.

Hope this helps you...

Normal picture mode make the sharper picture quality but smaller screen apparance

If the broadcast is in 4:3 (square) then either you can have the black bars on the side, or the TV can stretch the image to fill the screen.
Nothing wrong with your set. The broadcast must be in 16:9 to fil the screen.
