Configure WRT300N wireless Router to connect internet using PPPoE
I have a WRT300N wireless router already installed... In fact i can access its console using http://192.168.1.1... All the desktops and laptops can ping and connect to linksys router... However, i cannot connect to the internet when i connect the linksys through ethernet cable with the modem provided by my ISP provider... PPPoE is the network transport protocol being used by my provider.
I can connect to internet if a connect my computer directly to the modem... but if i connect my computer using my linksys router going to the modem, i cannot access the internet.
router program is all ready in my desktop computer folder. The router was disconnected and I am trying to reconnect it. I started from step 1 and got as far to checking settings and then a password box comes up and I have no idea what the password is. My own that I put in or one that you gave me to put in. I need the password so I can continue or I need to be able to change it if it is one I chose to use. Hope you can help!router program is all ready in my desktop computer folder. Re:
Often the nets and subnets are NOT the same.. ie The Fixed connection often uses 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, however sometimes the wifi is setup 10.1.1.1, or 10.0.0.1 etc, have you checked this? Esentially tho ya router is an "Acess Point" and ya Lappy etc is ya "Client" the links below has a lot of tutorials to help have a look.

Different ISPs require different configurations. If you have a Linksys router, such as the WRT54G, there are 2 ways on how you can configure it, either by running the Setup CD or by doing manual configuration. This particular router has its own web utility and you can access it by typing its IP addres on your web browser, ex. http://192.168.1.1. By default, it doesn’t have any username and its password is admin.
Once you’re inside the setup page, you can configure now the router for DHCP, PPPoE or STATIC IP settings. For DSL customers using a PPPoE account, some modem needs to be configured into BRIDGE MODE first and then the router will be set to PPPoE with the correct username and password (given by ISP). If your a DHCP account, modem doesn’t require any configuration. It will work with its default setting and the router would be set to DHCP. Once done, powercycle your devices to establish internet connection.
Configure the Router1.Step 1 Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter." 2.Step 2 Use "Admin" as the username in the pop-up box and leave the password blank. 3.Step 3 Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup." 4.Step 4 Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP. 5.Step 5 Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password. 6.Step 6 Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.
First connect your router to computer with ethernet cable. Then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password". Then you can see configuration page of router. Set WAN settings as your internet service provider. If you internet need user name and password for connect then you need to configure router in PPPoe mode. Enable DHCP if you want ip address from router. Click on wireless and enable wireless . Enable WEP security if you want secure wi fi.Then add WEP code then save settings and router. Then disconnect router from computer and connect internet service provider cable into it. Then you can use it wireless. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanksd for using FixYa.
I believe you have an IP Address conflict or the router needs to be configured for PPPoE. Here's how:
Basic DSL Setup - PPPoE
Most Internet Service Providers offer PPPoE authentication. Please consult your ISP if you are not sure if PPPoE could be used.
To configure your router for PPPoE you will need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to 'PPPoE' option. However majority of Modems nowadays already have PPPoE enabled. If your modem has PPPoE client built-in, you need to select the 'DHCP' option in your router. The router is set to this option by default.
Configuration steps:
Step 1 Connect the broadband modem to the WAN (INTERNET) port of your router. If the modem has USB connection make sure that it is NOT connected to any computers via the USB cable and that the modem is switched to Ethernet (not USB). Only the modem's Ethernet port should be connected to the router's WAN (INTERNET) port. Connect your computer(s) to the router's LAN port(s) or establish connection to it wirelessly.
Step 2 Open your Internet Explorer and log into your router by typing in its IP address (in most cases the default IP is http://192.168.0.1 ). Note that you do not have to be on the Internet in order to access this address because you are just connecting to your router's address. Specify username and password for your router, the default is `admin' (optional) and password is blank (nothing).
Step 3 After logging into the router select Setup. Set Internet Connection to 'PPPoE' option. This can be done by either clicking on Internet Connection Setup Wizard or if you want to set it up manually, then click on 'Manual Internet Connection Setup'. Note that it is very common for broadband modems to carry out the PPPoE authentication for you. In this case you need to select the 'Dynamic IP' option (DHCP) in your router, do not select PPPoE. If you have such modem proceed to Step 5
Step 4 If your broadband modem does not have PPPoE function, select the 'PPPoE' option in the router and enter your account details (username and password given by your ISP). Note that some ISP's require username to be as your full e-mail address (ex: [email protected]).
Step 5 Click on SAVE SETTINGS and then on REBOOT THE DEVICE to apply the new configuration. Recycle power to modem.
You do not have to run any login client (like PPPoE) on your computer in order to connect to the Internet. If you had it setup when using the modem without the router, disable it in Internet Explorer under Tools > Internet Options > Connections > set to 'Never dial a connection'.
If you did not have to run PPPoE login client on your computer when modem was directly connected to your PC, your ADSL modem has PPPoE built-in. In this case set the router's WAN (INTERNET) port should be set to the 'Dynamic IP' option.
If your ISP requires PPPoA connection you need to make sure that your ADSL modem supports PPPoA (PPPoA can not be used on Routers which do not have ADSL Modem built-in). If your modem will be carrying out PPPoA connection you need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to the 'DHCP' option.
If you are having difficulties accessing the Internet:
- Turn the modem and the router off for a minute and then turn the modem first and then the router.
- Log into the router and go to Status page. Note what IP address it is getting on the WAN (INTERNET) interface. If the IP address you see under WAN (INTERNET) appears to be in the same range you are using on your network (e.g. 192.168.0.x), you will need to change the range you are using on your LAN to something different, e.g. 192.168.88.x. You can do this on your router under Setup > LAN Setup. Note that after changing the IP of your router you will only be able to access it through its new IP, e.g. 192.168.88.1.
- Select the MAC Cloning option. Click on Clone MAC Address button. Do this from the computer which the broadband modem was directly connected to the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the router. Save settings and reboot the router. Reboot your broadband modem as well.
- Uninstall your antivirus software (sometimes disabling or closing the software is not enough) and reboot your PC.

Hi, Looks like when you reset the router/mdm you have los all yur configuration and back to the default factory settings.
Bridge the modem first . 1. In your web browser browse to »<your mdoms deault gateway> This address will be found in your manual of your modem 2,Depending on your modem make sure you use "Bridged Mode (PPPoE is not used)"
3. Click Save Changes.
4. Then connect the router
5.Configure the router for PPPoE using your ISP uid/pass
6.Configure your wireless using WEP(if applicable)
7.after all configuration shut the desktop, laptop, router, mdm and pwr them in seg..first modem and then router and then your desktop or laptop
1. First of all connect your PC Directly with Modem & check if you're able to go online or not.
2. If No , then contact your ISP.
3. If yes ,Disconnect CAT5 cable coming out of Modem from PC & connect into WAN port (on rear panel you'll find it) of Linksys WRT300N Router , After that on rear panel you'll find small hole with a Reset button inside it. Use needle or pen to press it quiet hard for 1 minutes continuosly, This'll restore all default settings.
4. After that give static IP - 192.168.1.2 to your PC ,subnet mask 255.255.255.0 ,default gateway - 192.168.1.1 & connect your PC directly with a LAN port on the back side of Router.
5. After that type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your explorer & login window will come , type username = admin & leave password field blank, then you'll get Blue coloured Router configuration page, From this page you can configure your Router.
6.Now if your Internet connection is Cable then default setting will work for you, However for DSL connection ,on this page you'll find internet connection type - selectiondrop down box - select PPPoE into it for DSL connection.
7. After that restart your computer & you should be able to go online.
