Configure WRT300N wireless Router to connect internet using PPPoE

I have a WRT300N wireless router already installed... In fact i can access its console using http://192.168.1.1... All the desktops and laptops can ping and connect to linksys router... However, i cannot connect to the internet when i connect the linksys through ethernet cable with the modem provided by my ISP provider... PPPoE is the network transport protocol being used by my provider. I can connect to internet if a connect my computer directly to the modem... but if i connect my computer using my linksys router going to the modem, i cannot access the internet.

router program is all ready in my desktop computer folder. The router was disconnected and I am trying to reconnect it. I started from step 1 and got as far to checking settings and then a password box comes up and I have no idea what the password is. My own that I put in or one that you gave me to put in. I need the password so I can continue or I need to be able to change it if it is one I chose to use. Hope you can help!

Often the nets and subnets are NOT the same.. ie The Fixed connection often uses 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, however sometimes the wifi is setup 10.1.1.1, or 10.0.0.1 etc, have you checked this? Esentially tho ya router is an "Acess Point" and ya Lappy etc is ya "Client" the links below has a lot of tutorials to help have a look. http://portforward.com/routers.htm http://portforward.com/guides.htm

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

My WRT300N seems to have trouble with wireless connections lately. The wireless indicator is a green light, blinking a bit from time to time. Most of the time the router just won't be detected, however...

I suppose you have not suppressed SSID broadcast? Sometimes, interference from neighbouring wireless devices such as Coreless Phone, unshielded powerful speakers etc., may cause interference. Try to keep any other wireless or magnetic device at least 5 - 6 feet away from router.

In the router admin panel, check if you have an option to change the WiFi Channel. usually channel 6 is quite crowded ... try some other channel and see if it is stable. If your router has "Auto" Channel option enabled, please change it to "Fixed" and try.

I lost the cd to install my wireless router. I also do not know how to hook it up to my modem

You can get the install program from Linksys http://www.linksysbycisco.com/APAC/en/support/WRT300N/download

There are a bunch of settings so I have included the highlights of what you want to address:

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

WRT300N Wireless Router change to DHCP

I would set the new wireless router to have a static ip address on the same subnet as the first router.  Then set the DNS and Default Gateway the same as the first router.  When computers connect they should pick up an ip from the first router.
