Re: Wireless wont connect
Hi, I have found a link that may help you set up your system.
You don't say what the setup error is? I think the "Help Link URL" will show ya how to reset the router, so do that.. set up the SSID and Channel and, then go to the lappy & set up your Wifi for "Client"mode, as ya should have set up ya Router as an "Access Point" ensure that is all set up correctly. below is a link to a program Wireless Mon, install this on the Lappy, and use it to see if your "Wifi Router" is actualy transmitting etc...and prove ya wifi in lappy is OK.. For you to be able to do that, you will need to set the SMC router to bridge mode, you will not be able to do that by yourself because only tech from your ISP have the capability of doing that since they have this tool that can operate on the router setting it to bridgemode. Basically, you will need to call your ISP to set the router to bridgemode and from there, you will be able to configure the linksys router.
Hope this information will help.
Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!
Try: Clarify - the desktop is connected with an ether net cable? Is working? Install router software on desktop to manage router. Trying to connect desktop wirelessly? Wireless card installed? Radio activated? Network detected?
You will have to start the configuration from the wired network rather than the wireless network. Connect the computer directly to the router. I am assuming you might be trying to configure the router from the wireless network. Then use the installation CD to configure the router
Are you trying to configure the router wirelessly. Connect your computer to the router with a lan cable and then access the router and change its wireless settings. since you cannot change the wireless settings wirelessly as you will get disconnected.
Can you still connect to the Internet with the Linksys router? I suggest that you go ahead and reset the SMC router to clear up your previously configured settings. Then before reconnecting it to the linksys router, make sure that you can access its web interface via 192.168.1.1. Don't disable DHCP as your computer won't be able to obtain an IP address from it automatically. Do not change other settings. Next, disconnect the ethernet cable and check if you can access the router interface wirelessly. Once done, connect SMC's WAN port to Linksys' numbered port. Make sure SMC's WAN light is on, as well as the light for the port you used on the Linksys router. Check if you can get online.
With this configuration, the linksys router is now acting like a modem, and the SMC as your router. As long as you're online when wired to the linksys, you should also be able to access the net on the SMC once you physically connect them.
It shows that your wireless router and wireless adapters are both working. One thing to try is changing your wireless channel. Since you are already using 11, try maybe 1 or 9. Check if your SMC adapter will pick up the wireless signal.
By the way, how far is your computer (using the SMC adapter) to your wireless router?
