My xbox was dropped and now it it making a loud noise, it will play music cd's but not games. It will go through the opening scenes of game discs but then will say the disc is not readable. I have heard it is the laser lens that needs replaced, but I'm wondering if this is something I can do myself.
There's a number of YouTube videos about replacing laser lenses on Xbox 360s.
Probably a good idea to watch a few of them - only you can determine if it's something you can do yourself.

Lens cleaners are too abrasive and do not work properly. to clean your laser it is best to strip down your 360, remove the dvd drive top cover and get a cotton earbud, spit on it and then very carefully with a clockwise rotating motion clean the lens this way. you may also need to re-align the laser to read 280-300 ohms as by the sound of it the laser might be set too high. we can offer a repair www.fixmyconsole.co.uk or if you want to have a go just pm us and we will try to help you step by step.
