I work at a hotel that supplies wireless internet. The problem is that it acknowledges the wireless network but never connects. I know the acer is suppose to have wireless capabilities, however, it can never diagnose the reason of why it cannot connect. It always reads "cannont diagnose because of unknown reasons." Should I take it back or are all the acers this way?

Re: Finding the wireless internet
Hi here is a tutorial how to connect up..
One has to ensure that the wifi settings are all the same.. also the Logon & password must be entered as well as any WAP encrytion that maybe used.. It is a good idea to ask the person who administrates the WiFi at the hotel for the setting so you can access and logon to their network.

Connecting to the internet is a security risk. Hence, at all places you have to supply the WEP key to be able to log into the WiFi network. At home you have already done it hence you are able to connect. The WEP key in hotels and restaurants is most probably on payment. Or, at least you have to give your identity to be able to use it.
I figured it out! I am also in a hotel room with only ethernet...and can connect to the network but not to the internet. When I got onto the internet for the first time on my laptop, there was a hotel internet webpage that came up immediately. You have to click CONNECT for 24hrs; 48; 1 week etc. unfortunately for us, Xbox doesn't have a internet browser like the PS3 does. So we can not click CONNECT when we are attempting to connect on the 360. The only reason why I know this is correct is because my friend brought his PS3 to my hotel room and that hotel connect window popped up and immediately we were playing Modern Warfare 2 with "full bars"...Xbox should really add a download for a browser! Like 360 way more. Sorry guys!
More information needed: Does your laptop have a wireless adapter? How do you connect at home? (wireles or ethernet cable?) What brand of laptop do you have? What troubleshooting steps have you already taken?
For your information, when away from your home network, you must change your wireless settings to point to the hotel or airport provider where you are trying to connect.
Usually hotels have some contact information and some basic support (some better than others) for their wireless connections.
I think it is saying that the wifi "card" is set so that it is not being configured by windows.
Control panel > Network connections
Under LAN or High-speed internet you will see an icon labelled wireless network connection. Right click on this and then click properties. You will see three tabs at the top
General - Wireless Networks - Advanced
Click on wireless networks
There should be a tick-box saying Use windows to configure my wireless network settings. I expect that, in your case, the box is unticked which means that the software supplied by the vendor of the wifi card is configuring the settings. I find that it is usually more reliable to let windows do it.
So tick the box and click OK. You may then have to reboot.
Sometimes they set the wireless to be unsecured. But you have to pay to use them.
Please check with the hotel staff about setting it to use.
If its completely free, double click the network icon on the task bar, click support tab and click repair.
if you are playing a game or useing a fileshareing program then they may have the ports these programs use limited or disabled on purpose. Regardeless it is a router issue, adn unless you happen to have an in with the hotel staff your prolly not going to be able to use them.
