Convergence Problem? I have a 43 in. Hitachi rear projection tv. About two weeks, the focus on the left 1/3 of the screen appeared out of focus. Is this a convergence problem? If so, is the problem easily repaired?

After speaking with a repairman in a local town, who expressed his anger over the trade going awry and leaving him in the dust. He finally told me that it would cost more to fix than to buy a new one. No help there. I am hoping you guys can assist us. I am ordering the two IC's recommended by you, however my concern now is your recommending a tech to do the alignment. Does this make reference involved, or the equipment we need? Time we have, equipment we do not. Can you offer more in your advise other than speaking with a distraught serviceman? Thanks!

If one of the colors (red, green or blue) is suddenly shifted, especially on one side of the screen, then one of your convergence IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. A good rule when this happens is to replace both STK392-110 convergence output IC's with the updated and improved STK392-150's. This is by far the most common failure in those projection sets and is fairly easy to correct. If you do not have experience in replacing covergence IC's and realigning the convergence circuits then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

Hitachi 43FDX Rear Projection TV

Yes, You will need to replace the 2 convergence IC's. Hitachi part # CZ01341. Generic part # STK394-160E These are the upgraded replacement parts. Also look for any burnt resistors near these IC's.

One of your convergence IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. A good rule here is to go ahead and replace both STK392-110 IC's with the new improved STK392-150's. If you have never replaced convergence IC's and realigned convergence circuits, allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

Horizontal hour glass picture

The convergence Ics need replaced. In Hitachi, resistors and sometimes a coil needs replaced as well. The convergence/deflection PCB is available, but, the cost of that board is higher than having a servicer come to your home and repair the unit to component level. If you are not familar with this circuit, then call a servicer. Have them replace both ICs not just one. Make sure they are repairing to component level and not replacing the board. Hope this helps.
