Question about Toys
I have purchased the Thomas Track Rider 2nd hand.
When I press any of the two red buttons on the Thomas train, I only hear a train whisle and train music, but the Thomas train does not move.
It is fully charged. But no movement.
Can anyone please help me with guideance on fixing this problem?
Thank you and Happy Holidays i have just purchases the thomea ride on second hand i have the music but nothing is happening when pressing the right button it did not come with instructions
I cannot promise that this is the problem, but this is where mine was broken, and you may be able to fix yours this way.
I was able to remove the plastic around the tender and access the motor. Using alligator clips, I was able to connect the battery directly to the motor, bypassing the circuit board. The motor functioned, therefore the only component that seemed to be defective was the circuit board, located behind the speaker in the engine unit.
As far as I know, the only place to buy a replacement circuit board is from www.tigerimports.com. Search for part number MEVA0024. Cost is around $15 + shipping (around $6 or so).
I should be receiving this part by the end of the week and will report if it fixed the problem.
Thanks for using Fixya. If I didn't help your situation, please DO NOT label this advise as "inappropriate".

We had the same problem with a second hand train and when we were putting it together on Christmas Eve we got really stressed in case our son thought Santa brought him dud goods!!!! I even got up at half past three in the morning after leaving it on the charge all evening and it still wouldn't move, only the sound was working. But buy sheer accident I found the problem..... you have to keep your hand on the red button til it moves, as soon as you press the button the light and horn comes on but there is a delay of maybe 10-15 seconds before the train actually moves.

I just purchased the Thomas train last Saturday, and had the same problem. I took the battery into a Battery Shop, and they said that it only had 1.6 volts (even though it said it was charged).
I bought a new battery, and it works great! (too bad my son is now afraid of it) :-)
Good Luck. I hope this helps.

Our Thomas does the same thing, you press the button and after a few seconds when the engine should start to move, there is a "click" and the thing goes dead. It usually gets into the bad mode after the battery got charged. The Thomas will stay dead for some minutes and then you can try again. You can speed this up by disconnecting the battery for about 15 seconds and then you can try again.
I was close to also getting the new circuit board, but I think in our Thomas this is caused by an intermittent connection in the connector from the battery to the Thomas. I'm talking of the big connector you have to undo when you also charge the Thomas. The connection is bad and lets just enough current through for the music or whistle, but not enough to make the motor go. You might be able to verify this by making it play the music and carefully wiggling on the connector. If it stops playing when you wiggle around the connector you might have the same problem.
You can now try to clean the contacts of the connector using a thin piece of sand paper you slide between the contacts. If this does not do it try to move the connector around and try again.... and again....

Actually, it is tigerimports.net and the circuit board is $15 and the batter is $29. This should solve the problem and is worth the minimal cost as my son loves it.

Have you tried keep pressing the right hand button down. When you press the button down and hold the press, then the sounds are finished, the trains starts driving. When you release the button the train stops at once.
