My x-box freezes on the main x-box logo, and doesnt go any further than that, ie to the dash board, unless I remove the hard drive from the main x-box itself, on which it does move on from the logo to the dash board. I have unplugged everything from it left it for a few minutes, plugged evrything back in to no avail, any ideas?
Xbox is offering a three year extension on warranty. i hope you did not open it. if you did, you are going to have to pay about $150 to fix it. send it in and replace it. that is your best deal. they are going to come out with a fan in the near future to solve this, but you should not have to put in more money.
Your system is way over heating, are you still under warranty if so return it to microsoft otherwise the 3 red light fix will also work for you. Get it free here :

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

Hello Zak
The hard drive for the 5000 is located at the rear of the machine in the upper left controller box as you know. The 5870's hard drive is to the right, just below the "main board". Remove the back cover. To your upper right you will see the enclosure that houses the main board. Directly below it is a box with a cover on it. That's the controller box. Remove this cover and the hard drive will right at yours eyes. You have indicated that you are familliar with the 5000 series, which means you know how to proceed now that you have located the HDD. Have a great one !
It does sound like a complete motherboard failure, do you have a recovery disc for the laptop? remove the hard drive and leave it out, remove one stick of ram, remove the main battery, and remove the wireless card. Now fire up the computer to see if the acer logo comes up and then it should go to blank screen with the cursor blinking, if it works to this point, turn off computer. Now install the hard drive and load the recovery disc, make sure the boot sequence is set to start the dvd driver first, if everything works and you have full control we are starting to get somewhere, if it fails, this is where I would change the hard drive and see if that makes the difference, if it does, replace the ram and wireless card back into position, and last the main battery. If all this fails it leaves the motherboard as the problem. one thing I forgot to mention swap out the ram if windows freezes.
Remove the Hard drive from the unit and try to play a game without it. if it continues to freeze, this will confirm a major issue that concerns the internal connections to the main board and hard drive bay. This will need to be repaired by Microsoft.
If the removal of the hard drive produces positive results, just replace the old hard drive with a new.
Jossie,
The cable that connects your hard drive to your main board could be loose. If it's not loose, then it's your hard drive. The only thing you can do (if it's not the cable) is send it in for a new hard drive. Unsure what the costs will be but the magellan logo screen is produced from memory on the main board while anything after that is when the hard drive takes over.
