I can burn DVD's but when I try to burn a CD I get this message "there is no disc in the drive". This happens with any burning software I've tried to use and I've tried 4 different programs. It also happens with every brand of CD-R or CD-RW I've tried. Again at least 4 different ones. I've got the latest driver. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drive but it made no difference. I'll gladly buy a new one if I need to, but I don't want to buy one and then find out it was just some setting somewhere that I didn't have set right. The drive properties have "enable cd recording" checked and the really frustrating thing is that the computer says the drive is working properly. Everything appears to be fine except that it can't seem to see the blank CD's I put in. The computer is still under warranty for a few months. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks.
This is a common problem I have seen over the years at my lab, it appears that the Laser for the CD, burns out, or the detector for the CD side of things fails..either way it usually results in DVD working 100% BUT the CD side if things is no good... Then ya spen ages going round in circles trying to "Fix" it when there is none, Unfortuanatly it means ya gonna have to get another unit :(
