My nec nd 6500a reads and writes cd's but only reads dvds, it will not burn them. i have tried installing a new driver but it keeps telling me the drive cannot be found
Go to the NEC.com website, and see all the dvd media types that the ND-6500A can use. I had a similar problem trying to use 1-16x on mine, it would not burn to them - gave me all kinds of error messages; then I used a TDK 4x DVD-R; worked fine; granted since it has 8x capability, I'd like to burn at the fastest rate - this was for a backup job, so only burned at 3.1 anyway. the media may fix your problem. worth a try.

Hi, I think that it's a firmware issue. If the unit is till covered by warranty, you may have to bring it back for replacement. When doing so, it may be to your advantage to bring the PC while it is still attached and blank CDs and DVDs just to demonstrate the particular failure and likewise to be able to test if and when it would be replaced. If for some reason, you would want to try DIY, please look over these sites that you may have an idea. http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=132275&mpage=1𠓝 http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/6500/ Hope this be of some help and pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.

Here is link for Dell drivers fro your NEC DVD.
If you do note have a Dell, go to the home web page of youe brand and find Support and / or Downloads, and search for the driver there.
This is usually a fairly simple process, if you have the model number of the PC
