Question about Harman Kardon DVD Player DVD-27
Hi, Its possible that dirt (even just dust) is blocking the eye (optical). You may need to seek the services of a qualified service professional since the unit has to be opened and the optical lens cleaned. Should you venture into doing it yourself, with the power of & unplug, remove the cover lid exposing the inside mechanism and electronics. A sliding bar near a black disc (spindle) would be holding the eye. You need to check/clean the said eye and make sure that no foreign object is on top. Even a speck of dust or a small fiver or hair would cause it to fail reading your DVDs. It is also possible that the sliding bar is stuck at the far end or near the center. Gently shake it loose if it is so. If this does not work, I guess you're back to the first suggestion. Hope this works out for you and give you some ideas. Pls post again how things work out and/or if you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Hi again Badjack,
Based on your new post/description, there is no mechanical problem with your DVD player. One can try is to to go to the setup function via your remote and set your progressive scan mode or sometimes called PScan mode (causes the split screen/display) back to default or off or back to interlace. In your remote it is the bottom right button.
You may have to consult the your manual for a more comprehensive instruction, It is likewise available online athttp://www.harmankardon.com/product_supp...
Hope this works out for you. Good luck and pls post again how things turn up. Cheers.
Glad that your unit is back to normal and to be of assistance.
