Same problem as described and after reseting the device it still won't accept the SD card (which is OK as I have checked it with another device). I am in the process of backing up the data but that does not resolve the fact that it wont allow me to have an SD card in the TomTom One v2.... what could i do?

Okay, I read this a few times and it didn't make sense, but I finally followed it and it worked. Here's the deal, as I understand it:

When there's a card in the slot, it "takes over for" the internal storage. So you need a copy of the app, and the voices, and all that stuff on the card in addition to the map(s).

With that in mind, installing the app on the card makes sense, and works.

Try resetting the device: -Charge it until it is full. -remove the SD card -press the reset button (with a pen) for 15 seconds -Hold the on/off button for at least 15 seconds -reinsert the SD card

If a reset does not fix it, try this:

When you see an animation of the memory card (SD card) being removed from your device and then crossed through, the application is not (properly) installed on the memory card.

To solve this, use TomTom HOME to install the application. Follow the steps below:

Install TomTom HOME on your computer, if it isn't already installed. You can download the latest version of TomTom HOME here: www.tomtom.com/home

Connect your device to your computer and switch it on.

TomTom HOME opens automatically and checks for updates. If it does not automatically check, select Device > Updade now from the menu bar.

When you are shown a list of available updates that you can download, make sure that you select the check box for the TomTom application and then click OK.
TomTom HOME downloads and installs the latest version of the TomTom application for your device.

When turn On can get the screen showing the GPS connected to Computer when not connected ,On Battery only, get red cross flashing

If your TomTom shows a red cross, it means the device is not able to load the software to be able to operate. Some devices have this software on a SD-card, some have it stored on an internal memory.
If there was a SD-card in your TomTom, I would suggest to put it back. If there is a empty SD-slot on your device, it could be you lost your SD-card, but some TomTom devices have an internal memory AND a SD-slot for memory extension, so if you have an empty cardslot it doesn't necessarily mean there has to be a card in it.

When you never saw a SD-card, probably some data went corrupt on the internal memory. When you have a SD-card, probably some data got corrupted on the SD-card.

To repair the software, you need to connect your GPS to your PC or Mac with a USB cable.
You also need the program TomTom HOME. You can download it for free on the TomTom website.
With TomTom HOME you can update the operating system of your device for free (map updates are nor free).

Try updating, and see if your device works again.

If this doesn't work, post it here.

Hi,

Go to TomTom Home reconnect and then go to device on the tool bar. Select disconnect device and this should free up your device and take the red X off.

if you have added the memory card recently it would appear it's not compatable with the gps. if you have had one before it may have become corrupted. be that as it may, make sure it is turned on in the options

Hi there

This happens because files on your card are corrupted after an unsuccessful download.
If you have a card backup at hand, put the card into a computer, format it , and restore backup.
After that the TOMTOM will restart working normally.

If you did not make a copy or backup of the original card, or you cannot reach the computer hosting the last backup. Then follow the procedure below to restore your data :

1. Uninstall the application

2. Reinstall the application

attention_25.gif We highly recommend backing up your device before continuing. questionmark_25.gif
This will preserve any maps and voices you may have purchased.
1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. Go to Computer (Vista), My Computer (XP) or your Desktop (Mac).
3. Double-click the TomTom disk drive to open your TomTom.
4. Make sure that hidden folders and files are shown. To do this:
  • Vista: Go to Organize > Folder and Search Options, click on the View tab and select the option Show hidden files and folders.
2053_01.gif
  • XP: Tools > Folder Options..., click on the View tab and select the option Show hidden files and folders.
2053_02.gif
  • Mac: With the exception of some system files, your Mac should already show all hidden files and folders on the TomTom drive.
5. Identify the map folders on the TomTom. These are named for countries or regions such as USA_and_Canada, North_America or any other country or geographical region.
6. Delete all files EXCEPT these map folder(s) and the folder titled ASR, if it exists (the ASR folder will not appear on every device).
7. Properly disconnect the TomTom from the computer and exit TomTom HOME, if it is open.
  • Vista/XP: Right-click the TomTom drive and choose Eject.
  • Mac: Drag the TomTom drive to your Trash.
8. When the TomTom boots you should see a screen with the flashing X.
Proceed to reinstall the application (below):

Before all, make a backup of device thrugh explorer or similar.

On the same link;
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=red+cross&FID=1898

longer down on the page, you will find:

What if the device still doesn't start?

If your device still only shows a cross after you turn it on, try formatting the internal memory or memory card of your device.
Please follow instructions carefully...

Memory Card

The DATA on your SD card has become corrupt or the SD card itself has become damaged / faulty. ..... Hopefully , some time back , you backed up your SD card to your computer ? . All you need do is format the card and then reload the files from your PC . If the tomtom still doesnt load up then you would need to purchase a NEW BLANK SD card and reload your backup onto it. If that doesnt solve your problem and if unfortunatly you didn't back up the original card then you will need to purchase a NEW TOMTOM SD card with activation code . Bad news and a learning process , always back up your tomtom card !
