Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
Hi, I have a 2001 model. Over the years the picture quality has been degrading. The red and blue are always getting out of balance. The screen is so dull and dark I cant stand it anymore. I lost the remote (thanks to kids) and now I'm not able to manually correct the convergence problems. Plus I can see a bunch of spider webs behind the screen. While watching a movie the other day a few things started to have 6-8 inch white trails above it. Hard to explain, kind of like when the x-wing fighter making the jump to warp speed with a trial of white behind it. Just started to happen but doesn't happen all the time. How can I open this up and wipe down the inside of the screen and maybe the 3 bulbs? What could I expect to pay someone to come out and open up the tv and clean the insides? thanks!!
Depending on the set you can go in from the back or the front. Some sets you can take off the front bezel faster than the back, like if you removed the speaker cover you should see screws holding up the frame of the glass of your set. You can remove and clean also look with a flashlight and see if you can notice any particles in your crt or guns. If need cleaning then have fluid replaced. This can be tricky if you do it yourself, because the gun are not straightly aligned they sit at an angle and the fluid level needs to be full of course. This mean turning your set at an angle to compensate. Once this is done then you can determine what else is happening with this set.
