Unfortunately, no. If it's a 4GB card, it is an SDHC card, which uses a different protocol than the 'standard' SD card. The maximum capacity of the SD protocol is 2GB, which is what the A530 is compatible with. (The SDHC protocol came out after the A530 was introduced.)

I TOOK SOME PHOTOS WITH THE CANON POWER SHOT A530 (ABOUT FIVE). I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO VIEW THE INTERNAL MEMORY PHOTOS. ALSO CAN I HAVE THEM SWITCHED TO THE SD CARD? I DID'NT KNOW AT THE TIME THE CARD WAS...

First, promise to never use the internal memory again. Go into the menu and there should be an entry for "copy" which should allow you to copy the internal memory to a memory card. After that, you should "format" the camera with no card inserted to erase the internal memory.

Hi I have a Canon Powershot A530 but if I want to take photo's it says card locked?

Take the memory card out of the camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Brand new 4 GB Sony memory card. I get a card locked/memory card failure.

The A530 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and won't work. You need to use cards 2GB and smaller with the A530.

The A530 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it will fit into the slot, it won't work there. You need to go with SD cards 2GB and smaller.

Hi I need to buy a SD Memory Card. Is there anything specific I need to buy?. I will be buying a 4Gb and have seen one in Asda Many Thanks

If this is for the M20 camera, don't do it. The M20 uses SD cards. Any 4GB card you see is going to be an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into SD slots, they will not work in them. For the M20 you need to stay with SD cards 2GB and smaller.

Canon camera won't accept SD memory card

It's a good bet that anything 4GB or greater is a SDHC card (look on the card, see if SDHC is written there). Your A530 was designed before the new SDHC format came out. Sorry, but your camera will not recognize this type of card. Recommend instead that you get a 2GB standard SD card. They're relatively inexpensive these days.
