Basically I'm having the same problem, my laptop is days old and the new camera won't work at all. Same error messages and all.

  • Anonymous Mar 26, 2009

its nothing to do with the camera - i have my built in camera and it works on Skype and on its own camera software - it even works when im in the messengers audio and video setup - but not when actually using it properly...

  • Haisys Mar 28, 2009

i'm on desktop, and i have the latest windows live messenger aswell.
sometimes, it shows that it works but when i unplug it and plug it back in, it doesn't let me click on "show my webcam". but when i try to tune it via audio and webcam steup and sign out of msn, it doesn't let me sign back in. it only signs me back in when i unplug it :S

  • tml0609 Mar 28, 2009

I don't know about the rest of you all but along with the error messages that pop up when I try to turn my webcam on I get a message messenger won't allow me to run audio/visual setup.

It won't allow me to turn my webcam on without telling me that messenger is unavailable.

The camera works just fine on yahoo messenger. I even uninstalled and then reinstalled the camera and messenger, same deal.

Before you can use your webcam in any chat program you have to configure it to that program

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/
Not working ? - troubleshoot your drivers and software - get your cam working before moving on

Working OK ?

CONFIGURE TO SKYPE
Connect webcam
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.

Well i just bought the ge minicam pro ho98067.the mic doesnt work

You do not say what your OS is and if the minicam has a built in mic or what program you want to chat in
This is how I set my mic up with Yahoo Messenger X Vista Home Premium
BODY,.aolmailheader {font-size:10pt; color:black; font-family:Arial;} a.aolmailheader:link {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} a.aolmailheader:visited {color:magenta; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} a.aolmailheader:active {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} a.aolmailheader:hover {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; font-weight:normal;} TEST SPEAKERS Right click on speaker icon in System Tray Select "Playback Devices" The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible Right click on the volume graph and click "Test" Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC Click "Recording" tab. Set required mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties" In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK Click "Levels" tab and set slider to 80% ( adjust to suit later) Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

CONFIGURE TO MESSENGER Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
