EasyShare camera lens is extended and will not retract, camera will not stay on either
Hi, I have a Kodak EasyShare Z650 camera. It worked fine and suddenly it shut down for no apparent reasons. Batteries were changed but that didn't help. When put on the on position it makes a strange sound theflash will pop up, the lens stays in the same mode it was in when the problem started, there is a flashing light on the selection wheel and the camera shuts down without the lens retracting.
Can someone help me out, please. Don't reallly know what to do to repair it by myself. Sure hope it is repairable.Would really like to finish taking pictures of the baby robins in their nest before they fly away.

I only can think of two reasons. The first, the battery does not have enough power. As a safety precaution it shuts itself down, to avoid damage to the saved pictures. Because if the voltage is to low, it can't write with 100% accuracy.
Second: something is blocking free movement of the lens. This could have a cause inside the lens barrel, and you won't see a thing. It also could be a minute damage on the outside of the lens. Or what sometimes happens while putting the camera on, you touch the lens barrel. I assume you did remove any lens cap attached to the camera.
So if you can't see any damage to the lens barrel, charge the battery and try again.
Try this: take out the memory card, then try to turn on the camera. My camera would not turn on even with new batteries. For a while I have been having issues with uploading as well. Suddenly it would no longer upload by plugging the camera into the laptop. However, taking out the memory card and plugging it directly into the laptop worked. The last time I did that, I put the memory card back into the camera while the camera was off. Then the camera would not turn on. I took the memory card back out, then turned on the camera and it came on just fine. Then I put the memory card back in with the camera on. So far so good.
Hi, You no need to fix this problem. This is a CCD failure and in some cases had been subject to a recall.Contact Kodak support this may be one of the recalls and replacement camera could be on its way. They will do it for free of cost. Thank you !!
I have one and my does not shut down right after I turn it on, but there is a battery save feature on it, You must have yours set to save the most battery... see if you can reset your save battery feature..
Hope this helps
I had the same problem--One day it worked fine-- the next day it booted up and cut of. I recharged batters. Then I noticed the memory card would not upload to my PC. WELL, I tried a New Memory card and it (the) Camera worked fine.. So just change the card and give it a try..Good Luck.
